  • Golden uMax schematic

Well, I had gotten further along on tracing this thing out than I remembered, but it still ain't complete, and I haven't had time to get the schematic all purdied up. So here is what I have, so far, and I make no guarantees that any of it is correct. Normally, when I put the pieces together into a formal schematic, I watch for things that don't "look right", and go back & retrace. Sorry for not posting this sooner, but I really thought I had only traced the very front of the RX.

These are pages right from my notebook, scanned at 300dpi, compressed jpeg @ 75%:

    Page 1 (387k)
    Page 2 (359k)
    Page 3 (371k)
    Page 4 (327k)

    Have fun!

    Nice!
So far the only request about this unit is how to turn off the tone ID with a switch.

Carl, what are the performance between bandidoII and golden umax? or are the same?

      thanks

        Re: Golden uMax schematic

Tone ID is generated inside the PIC, and cannot be disabled. The PIC generates the audio, and also figures out the disc & notch.

Comparable, I'd guess. I've only had them out each a few times. I much prefer the Bandido's zero-motion AM mode, and it has manual GB, but the Golden's tone ID and notch are also nice. The reason I took the Golden apart in the first place, was to add manual GB and a zero-motion mode, which would make it a sort-of Bandido III.

Maybe there is a way to fool the inputs to the PIC. To have all targets give the same response.

Then the discriminator wouldn't work, because that's sorted out in the PIC first, which in turn generates the tones.

Hmmmm. Maybe a test mode PIC exists at Tesoro we can smuggle out

Carl, please see "Need your opinion?" thread below concerning the X5.

                    Re: Golden uMax schematic--PIC CODE

                    COOL!!!

I might have a go at writing some software for this PIC is anyone is interested, as I'm working on a PIC based detector.

I WILL replace all the front panel pots with digipots and use an LCD with menu system to allow users to set the values.

Leave it with me for a while and I'll see what I can do...NO promises, but if I get something going, then I'll post the code on this forum.

                      Carl,

PLEASE check that the signals you have traced go to the pins on the PIC you say they do.

Some signals seem to go to the SAME pins and others which are analogue seen to go to digital inputs. This does NOT seem right.

I can figure out what Tesoro have done but ONLY if the pin assignments are correct.

I will try to post a PROTEL DXP version of this schematic so people can make their own PCB's.

That would be great. I think we are very interested. Thanks.

Re: Golden uMax schematic--PIC CODE..Carl can U check pls

I will try to crack the code in the existing PIC (I know how to do this even if te security bit is set) but may have to blow up a few (very expensive) first.

Disassembling the code might give hints as there are a few wierd looking pins used. Speaking of which....

Carl In addition to the PIC pins used, page three of the circuit seems a bit too wierd to be 100%.

There are three points for Vd to go to and the loopback for the mode switch seems to go to a very strange point in the circuit. Can you check please?

Sorry, Sean, I had reassembled the Golden a while back for my uncle to use. That's why I never finished tracing it. It's still being used, so it may be a while before I crack it open again.

                              Hey Goodrat

The Shadow X-5 is a good machine like many others. A bit over priced for what it does and they do like the bottle caps though. I have traced a schematic if your interested?
