  • Whites Coinmaster 1/DB Schematics and or Help

I rescued a Whites Coinmaster 1/DB from the "free" pile at a local yard sale. I knew it would not work and it would be a fixer-upper due to its location at the sale. Here is what it does and what I know:

It turns on and makes a high pitch noise(same as all metal noise on my RS version of Landstar) if the tuning pot is rotated about halfway.
Nothing seems to be broken anywhere
It does not detect metal when it is tuned according to the manual
The coils have continuity and are not shorted, I did not measure resistance but can if needed.

It looks pretty cool just sitting there!

    Is it the TR version?

I do not believe it is, it does not say anything about Sears on it anywhere. It may however, have the same circuit board as I am not familular with that model.

I have enclosed some pictures of the board and the case.

Any help with trouble shooting this circuit would be great.

TR it is! Did you hold it to the ground when tuning?

No, according to the manual the coil is to be suspended for bench testing. Example in the manual is to have the coil over the edge of a table top. Implied from your question: I will try tuning on the ground and get back to you.

Holding the coil agaist the ground while tuning has no effect. Detector still behaves the same, no increase of tone while over any metal.

Google the Pat Numbers on top of the machine.

You should at least find a basic schematic.

Thanks folks so much for the help so far. I am not an EE as you can probably tell from my questions so far. I actually teach Wood, Metal, Plastics, and a little electronics at a local high school. So I know my way around a bunch of stuff but not an expert at anything.

Anyway I have scoped this out today and I have a nice wave form on one of the coils in the head. I assume there is two coils and I get almost nothing from the other. The only thing that seems to set it off is placing my leatherman tool right up against the plastic coil case. Then I get a small signal that filters through and can be heard. But I mean nothing smaller than a multi tool will set it off, 1/2" wrench is as quiet as a mouse.

With these symptoms and the schematics lonelyWolf gave(thanks again!), does anybody know where I should start troubleshooting? I am thinking the problem must be somewhere in the tuning or discrimination circuits. But as I said I really know nothing
