Coil check for Garrett Stinger Scorpion

Hi, can some one check resitance on coil connector for Stinger detector.
It looks like I have open circuit on RX pins but I am not sure if they have capacitor in siries inside coil ????

Hi, I have measured resistance only between two pins on the connector and it was about 2R and I think it is TX winding, all other pins combination gave me open circuit condition so it is possible that RX side has fault or it has some electronics inside - I would need this confirmation.
The detector does not detect so it will be good to know if it is coil problem or PCB box problem for start.
        Regards,

Garrett coils often have passive components in the coil that could stop you performing a continuity check. A better method of checking would be to attach scope probes to the TX and RX pins. If there is no TX signal, then either the transmit circuit or the coil will be faulty. If there's a TX and an RX signal, then the fault will lie in the control box.

Hi, thanks for the advice, I have checked again PCB and I have seen some grease deposit leaking under one of electrolitic caps 470uF/10V. I have it replaced with 25V rating and all works.
Thanks for help - I notice that I can see better if I know more.
            Regards,

Compare the pare – Garrett Scorpion imitation.

There is a legend about Asian metal detectors being a copy of western one.
Yet I was not able to spot it on net so I went out to find any. It is not easy to find MD in this big place – they do not sell it in regular shops but in sort of warehouses. Yes they have many westerns detectors to offer but they are original and priced x 3 what we can buy in the west. ( OKM, MINELAB, GARRET , NEXUS, GPRs – they just handing to me via the door from next room. They have about 5 original models but no copies.
Then disappointed I have visited electronic parts outlets and bingo !!!
I have got it for “foreigner” price $120, not copy but imitation of GARRETT ?
It sells with 12V battery and charger and it has Garrett appearance only – the rest is original engineering and it works. Have a fan to look.

                  Hallo Wam,
I've seen copies of the Garrett security wands for 40$ but havn't seen the gold stinger.
It is an older analog design and not difficult to copy.
Did you notice any difference in performance? Here in Germany some copies of older Whites detectors have been tested with very poor results. These copies didn't claim to be Whites detectors but had another fancy brand name.
Are you in HK or somewhere else?

                  Greetings
                  Ganesh

Hi, I am back heome, but the first test on Australian coins was fantastic - it could not see any but all local coins picked all the time. Then I have checked it on my translators cat grave - the cat was bured 2 years ago with silver plated chain about 0.5 m under and no problem to detect. More testing later ...

                      Good "deal" wam.

Couple weeks ago I have a little correspondence with Chinese "producer" that claim to manufacture copy of Garrett Gold Scorpion too (funny they have photo of Fisher CZ-21 instead of Garrett Scorpion accompaniaing text about Garrett on his web site and repalce it after my criticism):

                      http://www.tecmetaldetector.com

But regarding price, you make really good deal. After all negotiations I got this best offer:

"1) I am sorry for the mistake, since our website designer is not familar with our products, so put the wrong picture, We will pay more attention to this in the future.

                      2) I apply from our boss, due to the your case, he agree to give you special price, but only this time. USD$350.00 include the shipping charge to you ."

Most probably it was only web scam and I have no serious intention to buy something from those "factory".

By the way I negotiate for "original Minelab GPX-4500", they ofer, for USA $ 1,100.

I have some inteligance out there, I will try to check this link. One photo from this page is from my "Garrett" model. Local customers have much lower prices than us - for any negotiations always use original speaking translator - get friendly with some nice girl to help you. Do not trust sites using for conntact any like hotmail addresses. And forget about GPXs - it is not made out there yet.

This metal detector inside is nothing like original Scorpion, it is not a copy but imitation.
I did not find any copy like the same PCB or schematic so still "legend".
