    Hello to all
I always wanted to have and test this model with the hip-mount version but I'm new to the electronic workings and parts.Since I mainly have worked on the older Garrett ADS and Bounty Hunters
Red Baron models.I was surprised at how advance the electronics are
for the age of the detector 80's.They have so many I.C's with very few
transistors. They have two circuit boards and the small one is double
sided with clear silicon covered and that makes it a nightmare to test
or desolder to replace the I.C's.The one I'm testing the GEB Normal and Max work really good picking up tiny 1/2 gram of Gold with very
powerful response at 5 to six inches air test and at the same time Ground balancing really bad black mineralized soil and does not blank the small tiny nugget. But in the GEB/DIS does not work and the VDI does not show or meter does not deflect to Gold or silver or a nail. Can anyone that knows the model or has worked on them
give me an idea to cut down the areas or components. What I.C's might be the ones to test.Or a schematic with voltage test points
or anything that will get this going properly.By the way this model
has the four battery pack incredible only six volts, compared to the
older or previous models with two packs 12 volts and 9 volts.
Thanks to any comments or knowledge attachment is the unit I have working on it at this time.

It's a compressed rar file. You can download WinRAR (for Windows) for free to extract the files -> http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-b...-10007677.html

                Thanks AP
For the nice photo even do the top small board is not taking out
by pushing the four white plastic stems and pushing up you
can removed the small board from the large one to see the other
I.C's I can see by the signs that CD4053BE was removed or U9
Witch in my case I had in mind of not being working properly
What was wrong with the one you are showing in the photos AT
was it the discrimination or the meter VDI not moving?
I'm still trying to find something less time consuming for the
removal of the I.C's on a double sided board, like in this case.
And still have the I.C as it was before removal.

                  Hello Conan,
If the board works... , I do not know, never made it to test it... for shipping costs you can have it.. send me a PM is you like it.

To remove IC's from d.s. boards.... I do it as follows : first clean the place with acetone so there is no old flux or paint spray anymore, then apply some new solder flux (yeaa the bad one..not to much...) Now with some solder removal braid (and not to much heat!) tray to remove as much solder as possible from both sides .. with some luck (and a little force ...) now the IC can be removed ..clean the place where the IC was with cleaning alcohol and a tooth brush, the last alcohol I remove from the pcb using a thin cotton sheet on the pcb and rubbing the tooth brush over the cotton sheet so it takes the last alcohol from the pcb.
With the use from a desoldering pump I always destroy the board..there can be better way's but above works for me best..

                  best regards.
