Great Site you guys have here. Any chance you have the schematic for the MXT? I was fixing up a dodgy battery terminal connection late last night whilst I was getting things ready for the first day of my detecting holidays (today) and I stupidly reversed the polarity and now the unit doesn't turn on. I hope there is some sort of protection circuit or diode otherwise my holidays are toast!
Upon Further investigation, I found the battery pack gets hot when connected to the unit and the detector turned on. Obviously a short. I traced the short to U1 but unfortunately, the markings on mine are almost non existent. Any chance someone can give me those details?
To anyone wondering, after removing the Voltage regulator (U1), I found the short to ground still existing. Looks like the culprit is C3 (not easily seen in the first picture - just above the regulator) When tested out of circuit, the C3 Capacitor is closed circuit.
Hi Lamo
As long as short found will be looking one track which is outside of the Voltage regulator (U1),and looking at the track which was distributed on several tracks and only disarm one pin of every component on this path until you reach the causative short(C,D,U).
best time
