System restore is your BEST friend....
However if you were to just download a large layout(larger than your pin limit), you can re-arrange components and traces, just not add any more components.
I think there would be a couple more than 300 pins on the main board of the 2000

    Cheers Mick
    Hi Mick,
    Thanks for suggestion
I guess I can install it in VM and then rollback VM,
Or split layouts into smaller boards

The original one does have a ground plane, although it is not very plain it has lots of slots in it where they routed traces across the board, yours looks much more plain!

I don't know that the engineer's that originally worked on the 2000 just randomly placed components, there would have been a lot of thought gone into it. At the end of the day though they did not need to make the machine real low noise as it was a giant leap in front of what had come before it. Heck they could have probably run it from a bread board and still had excellent results in the field!!!! The amount of gold they found with the 2000 was amazing!

As for the fets being a hooded job I will let you in on my observations. Ages ago I first tried irf740 cause thats what everybody was using for their home brew detectors at the time. These fets worked, however their on resistance was much higher than the buk-455's, so me being me, I decided it would be better to push more current into the coil, so then opted for some other ones that were used in the 2200(I don't remember the part number anymore) they were lower resistance. I then found that the I ran out of ground balance in a lot of locations and could not use the detector properly. So the stock ones went back in. My thoughts are that the lower R fets allowed more current into the coil, causing the flyback to last longer which in turn made the first sample closer to the flyback with a higher amplitude ground signal. Probably if I could have had an extra 1us delay before the first sample everything would have been fine!

Make sure you use good low esr caps for the tx tank and 5V power supplies.

      Cheers Mick
      Hi Mechanic
Thank for redirections, i will see what will happen in that part of cct.
I will try to reconcile everything.

How many Pins in your layout have you got so far,
I have noticed free version of diptrace is limited to 300 pins,
        Is it enough ?

As for performance, it sure does sound like a minelab. As for depth, I have a test patch in my back yard of low mineralized ground and can detect quite well a australian five cent coin (30cm air test) and a 20 euro cent coin which are both 27cm down. The machine is prone to emi in built up areas which makes it unstable at times. My machine has six quartz crystals ranging from 2.3mhz to 3.6mhz via a rotary switch, which i have noticed can help tune the machine. Use high ohm headphones for best sound quality - I use 60 ohm sony headphones and the quality is much better than using an external amp with 8 ohm speaker. I have never used a minelab pi before, but i am satisfied with its performance and its ground balance feature in low to mild mineralized soil. At the beach you get a good work out - you dig deep holes. It takes some practice in learning how to manual ground balance, channel one is always in tune, but channel two needs to be adjusted to suit ground conditions. I know that the quality of my boards are nowhere near of an original sd2000, so it's performance will be lacking.

            FINISHED PRODUCT!

            Hi

Here are my last updates, project is complited, last night i drawed audio board and this is it,
I will spend a couple of hours to check is everything OK.
Afther that i wll send files to local manufacturer and after building one working device, PCB will be able for all of us.
Also i wll make few video's.
            Cheers

                Good work

Would be nice to add all files to the version control system like SVN
That way it's easier to keep track of changes and versions
I think this forum needs SVN and WIKI to really boost coloroborative development

                  Looking very nice!
                  Congratulations on such nice job!
I was about to "calm down" from making any detector this year, but your nice work is tempting me much!
Is it possible you to share pcb files so others here can make it too?
Or if there is any way you to send prepared pcb's to those of us interested?
                  Cheers!

                      Hi
What would be a point to don't share PCB files?
PCB files will be available as i say when i made one workin device.
Unfortunately i live in contry which is still not in EU so sending anything will be too much expencive,
I already explain what is the goal, i don't want to share PCB files wit errors.
Building SD2000 is pretty expensive project so i don't want to share PCB with "error"!
I just don't want to someone waste his money and a lot of time on project.
I will take a risk and try i hope everything will be fine.
Honestly i don't expect some incredible performance from first switching ON as usually but after couple hours, every single gold nudget in my area will be found :P
I am just joking, i live in area where gold nudget don't exist in natural shape, just Roman coins and from time to time " buried treasure :P " so for SD2000 V1.2 one of the task will be discrimination. I alredy have plans and ideas, but for now, i will be satisfied with this basic cct with couple mods.
                      Cheers

Excellent work Detecto. I know Zed's schematic(s) are out there somewhere, but could somebody possibly post the LATEST, correct version, right here? Or maybe a link to the latest version please?

                          Zed?

What about you, Detecto if you're working from it - where can someones else find your source?

                          Many thanks.

I worked according to his schematic.

                                Hi eduardo1979
Just stand in the first instance and wait for PCB files you will get opportunity to try magic of SD2000 cct :P

The whole story abouth SD2000 dates back to 05-13-2012 when i accidently found thread, when i first time sow schematic i was more then impresed so i try to find PCB,
Someone post one of the version of SCH and PCB on nine page in the same thread,
so i downloaded that PCB and try to manualy redraw, it was horrible.
By the way i find out that SCH and PCB (from page 9) are not correct so i decide to draw my own PCB.
I first had to redraw Zed schematic to diptrace sch, and this is dangerous part where the error may be easily made so it is number 1# for checking .
I must accentuate that i get a lot of help from friends when i drawed PCB.
One of the reason why i want to share PCB files is that all of us can work in future to improvement the cct. Here we have a lot of experts in domain of electronic so improvements will be obvious.
All this vill be SD2000 V1.0 ( invented by Bruce Candy dates back to 95')
For SD2000 V1.2 i alredy say what i am planing, just little "modernizing"
Bruce made one great detector and Zed done one BIGGGGGGGG homework (like mr kt315 like to say :P)
Generaly i am new to MD, metal detectors is just my hobby in free time (when i am free from collage) and i am still learning, year back i made almost each VLF project from here and i figure out that they don't left a lot of space for moding and improvementing , from now i decide to focus only to PI detectors because storry here is not the same.
My English is not pretty good so that is limiting me a lot!!!
                                Hope you understanding me.
Thank you all for the support.
                                Best wishes
                                Cheers
