Pat, I do believe that the timing is the difference
Sidescan is based on 1500 meters per sec speed of sound and each sweep or line of data(voltage spikes)is the result of one singular ping going out and returning before another line is drawn.The speed of sound does not change due to frequency changes but range and resolution do.You need lots of dc voltage and a very good pulse shaper to attain any real clarity.
