Sture,


Do you have any photos of any of the transducers that you disected that you can send to the list?


The only transducers I've ever seen up close are fishfinder transducers and I have not even seen one of those opened up.

Unfortunatly I didn't take any photos. Right now


the disected pieces is locted 200km away, but next time I pass I should pick it up for photografing.

Do you think I would learn anything by opening up an old fishfinder (but working) transducer?


Basically, I would be destroying a perfectly good transducer in the process.

Don't destroy a working unit!


The fishfinder have circular crystals with


cork or other isolator. Most common is epoxy window.


Exception is proffesional echo sounder that use


PUR window.

Thanks. I thought you would say that. I'm dying to see what one looks like on the inside because it would help me understand these threads a little better if I actually saw what we are talking about.


I'll try to locate one that no longer works. Any ideas on where to locate inoperable sidescan transducers? I would imagine most people would just toss them away ... but you never know.

Since I now and the do the field repair on the


sidescan the belongs to the university i got some.


As I wrote I have looked into 2 different types


and the advanced one with Conathane and metal bar


I have not been able to build successfully.


The images I have posted with homemade


transducers is with units made with the more


easy way with U-shaped "chassi" and cork or


"corkopoxy" isolator.

Is you talking about the disected or the


homemade one?


The disected you can borrow for while but as I


wrote I don't have it home and it will take


14 days before I pass it.


Of course I can build transducers for you also


but as I understand it is some sort of "sport"


to do it yourself.

The disected one. I misunderstood your prior e-mail and thought that you had some bad transducers laying around.


No doubt that it would be fun to make. However, in the end it would be nice if I actually was able to get one to work.


But, now that you mentioned it ... how much are your home-made ones?

Since I buy the mechanics from a workshop I


have to take 500 USD /unit.


The mechanics is a stainless 40 x 40 x 2 mm profile


with PCV endcaps constructed to fit inside a 100 mm


tube with 2 mm wall thickness. The window is epoxy.


2 options with nominal 250 or 500KHz.


Both with a PUR cable as connection.


500KHz


Array size 356 mm x 3 mm. 0.5 x 60 degrees.


Maximum range 100 meters.


250KHz


Array size 356 x 6 mm. 1.2 x 60 degrees.


This transducer is still under testing.


The "500" is identical to the ones we found the last sub with.
