Checked out the prices of fiber optics.
When using the cheaper, plasic, fiber optics the price is about $75/50m and $150/100m.
This is for single strand optic cable.
Twin cable cost $125/50m and $250/100m.
The send/receive drivers cost just a few dollars.
The shop actually gave me 2 meters + drivers for free to play around with.
Some observations:
1) The cable itself is very thin, about 2mm per strand with a 1 mm core.
2) Feels quite strong, but main force will be taken by tow wire anyway.
3) Its thin enough to be molded in watertight connector.
4) Connecting cable to driver/receiver do not need any special tools and can be easily done at home.
I expect the price in USA to be cheaper then here in Holland.
So for me, I go for the optics instead of coax.
Its nice straight forward and not influenced by ambiant noise sources like outboards, seabed power cables etc.
