  • Off Subject. Funny lead liners

This post should be on Treasurenet wreckforum but I have problems with this "key" thing they have there.

Forgot mine several times... am fed up with requesting new ones..

    Ok, the question.

I have been diving on a britisch cruiser that was torpedoed in WWI (1914)

Near one of the smaller gun turrents (I think a 4" gun) I found small pieces of lead sheat (about 1 mm thick).

It looked like there used to be a wooden box around it, but the wood is gone.

The size if box (when it was a box) would be around 30 x30 cm (Do not take this measurement accurate.. its just a guess)

We had no real time to investigate more because we were in deco as it was and had to go back.

We were not really supposed to do deco dives, so we could not investigate more and explain an hour "safety" stop (hehe)

It looked like there were more that one.

O yes, they were near vast quantities of shells.

We think they might have contained fuses or firing caps.

Had a quick grope (in the mud I mean and not my girlfriend (hehe)) but found nothing but mud.

Does anyone have any idea what these "boxes" might be ?

    Regards, Jan

P.s. The first task for our sidescan will be to make a "picture" of this wreck and the 2 cruisers that lay within 500 meters. (all 3 torpedoes by same U-boat on same day)
Working...
