Last night I was reading an article in "Underwater Magazine" on "Building Homemade Underwater Vehicles". The article mentioned that a number of people had made their own ROVs at a fraction of the cost of a commercial unit. One guy built one for $5000 and another guy built one for as low as $1000. Sorry, no plans were mentioned that might be available.
The article mentioned a web site/forum for this subject. If anyone is interested, the site address is ... http://forums.delphi.com/rovnet/start/
I did visit the site and did not notice a lot of activity.
"Underwater Magazine" is a pretty interesting "rag" if you have not seen it. They often have artciles on ROVs, Sonars, etc. You can get a copy for free by visiting the following site and filling out the proper documents. http://www.adc-usa.org
Once at the page, go to the area mentioning the quarterly magazine. From there you can subscribe (make up a business that seems dive related to ensure you get a free subscription) and look at archeived articles. For you guys not in the US ... sorry ... $25.
