  • Homebuilders - where are you?

For some time I've wanted to build my own SSS (due to obvious reasons of costs..) So I was very happy to find this forum and I've been reading through the archives with great interest. But... it seems that all the homebuilders has given up on their projects or simply just left the forum in mid air - so to speak :-)
I have reasonable understanding of the theroy behind the construction of a sss system at large, but I also have big black holes in significant areas and I was hoping you more seasoned homebuilders could help - if you're still here that is...?
I'm going to do this with or without help from others.. I just dont find any reason to try and reinvent the wheel :-)

    Best regards,
    PeterM

    Peter,

Just to give you comfort I'm in the same boat as you, although I'm just at the beginning of the learning curve. I just purchased John Fish's and Arne Carr's book "Sound Underwater Images" and I've found it very informative. Although it focuses mainly on the interpretive end and not on the electronic/mechanical specifics it has a lot of good practical information and I've found it worth the cost.

Re: Homebuilders - where are you?

      Hi Mark,

It's nice to know I'm not alone :-)
I've been looking at SSS systems for a while now, but I haven't had much time to spend on this until now.
I have a loose block diagram of the overall system and I'm beginning to examine more exact circuits that could be relevant for this. I have good experience using micro-controllers so this is the direction I'm going in. I still have big holes on various aspects of this, but I think I'm making daily progress.

      Best regards,
      Peter

Re: Homebuilders - where are you?

        Peter,

I'm currently working on a HUD for my homebuilt rebreather using a PIC 16F873 and PicBasic Pro compiler, my first "real" project so I'm just getting up to speed. I plan on finishing my current project before starting the next one so I'm currently in the learn all I can slowly stage. It would seem that a micro-controller based system would have a lot of advantages. I've found that with a little accomplished everyday and patience you'll eventually be surprised at what can be accomplished.
