Can someone point me in the direction of information on generating a TVG (time varied gain) graph? An algorithm?

they put it like this:

TVG = 20logR + 2aR
where R is the one-way distance, and a is the absorption coefficient expressed in dB/m.

As for schematics you can check Stures post containing a gif of an entire schematics of the towfish electronic. The mail is from: 17 August 1999 and named: "Towfish board"
