  • Matrix 35 fishfinder a side scan aproach?

    I subscribers,
It seems Hummingbird developed an aproach to 482 KHz dual beam side scan (90ºside/20ºfront).
Look interesting such idea for a simple fishfinder. Did not read if they implemented TVG on Matrix series, in their literature.
Will be interesting to test it and on the other hand to try a modifyed array transducer, like Fountain sugest.

    Best regards,

    Xavier

Just wondering if you have seen one of these units in action?
Can they really scan that wide?

I have one and the unit seems to be quite good. What I love about the unit is that it integrates with a WAAS GPS and asigned lat and long to all found targets. At $299 not bad.

Can you actually see more area as it suggests.
With a 90 degree beam and a "side scan sonar" like display, does it really cover more bottom?
An object to the side of the boat not under the coverage of a normal 10 to 20 degree sounder can not be picked up, will this quadra beam see this object?

        Cheers

It seems quite good, it picks up targets off to the isdes nicely but does not show much detail. However it tags all target witht he lat and long.

What I like though is you can then drive over the targets with the standard bottom view and zoom in on the display and you can tell if it is sand, mud, rock etc.

It is basic but seems to work,
