  • humminbird smartcast-wireless transducer

hi, does somebody tried to disassemble the smartcast-fish? there should be a transducer and a serial radio-transmitter inside. all for just 20$. 90 degree beam, 115 khz, range up to 100 feet.
when i buy 10 smartcast-fish, time-multiplex the data from the transducer to the transmitter, feed the received data to a laptop ....
are i am completly wrong, or is this the way to a cheap sidescan-sonar with wireless datatransfer?
    regards from the alps

It wont work for underwater use, only if its floating, looking for fish, the transmitter only has a line of sight range of 100 feet,if it even does that,if anything gets in the way you wont have a signal, nice thought though,it would be great to have a wireless SS might cut down on some wires.

I am picking one up from walmart to use during shallow water searches. A number of times last year when pulling the mag or using the home built ss we had hits we wanted to check around. We have hits and could not get on top of them. So I am planning on using the smartcast to search either side of the boat to try and determine size or area of hit.

the sensor is water proof. Think I will try taking it down about 10 ft next time we go diving and see if it will work. It can be purcashed in two different frequncies.
