The images you post looks very good for no pre-amp line with a fishfinder. What was the cable
lenght?
I played with fishfinder sss couple years ago
having 0.6 deg Xducer, but than I had only 4 level of gray on Humminbird 3d Paramount and
no intefacing to PC or GPS.
The wrecks were still readable, but
no details at all. Than I turned to systems with electronics on fish and further PC processing
What is surprising in your pics, is X-ducer
stability. Do you use a kind of towing fish or
hull mount it?
What was the range and how many
pings per second you Lowrance provide on that
range?
Is it a one of Lowrance transducer or yours, what is horisontal beam aperture?

Hi,
For some shots in my home area in calm fresh water the transducer was hull mounted. All the wreck shots and others from Lake Champlain were taken with a towfish mounted transducer. The Lowrance uses a balanced line which is not as prone to pick up noise. No, it is not a lowrance transducer! They are transducers that I designed and built myself. My best ducer should be under one degree horizontal, (no test tank data) although
some of the shots I posted were with a ducer closer to 2 degrees horizontal. Ping rate is adjustable and without setting one up I couldn't
give you an exact count at this time. One shot of the 'Water Witch' shows decent detail close to 300 feet away. Max range of detection can vary. As with any SSS you won't get detail at the extreme limits of its range. The recorded detail is much better than the live built in display. Thanks for writing

As I understand, you have only one chanel
on fishfinder, (I didn't find anything like
"side view" in Lowrance manual on the web).
Oterwise it fits almost perfect for sss.
Still, what was maximum cable lenght? As I
remember, I run with 40 m no balanced (with a
mid point) then I saw wreck 13 m deep on
Humminbird (Hummibird was chosen because it supports)
2 ducers "sideview". Did you check any Lowrance
units for tis option? The reason for me to
come back to ready made fishfinder is the idea
to use it for underwater navigation when dive.
Than you only have to keep everyting together
in watertight contaner, and see where you are
relative to target.
Also what it solution for upload result to PC?
Right now I'm building 2 freq ducer for next
fish, mainly using Stures recomendation published
here and your succesfull solution drives me to
some question.
First, what technics you use for aligning crystals, what was the absorber thikness for
200 khz and the window thickness. What was
spacing and what you put in it?
The image is 17 msw 70 m long exploded 2 ww ship
ducer 0.6 deg 440 khz speed say 4 knots.

so how much is the basic semi kit form? inexpensive to me for a kit would be in the $200.00 to $500.00 range,any higher then that,you can buy one of the commercial made ones off ebay.
how much for the pc board,the schematics,parts list,and how to make or where to get the transducers?i can build a fish an solder components on boards,even make the ducers.

Results with homebuilt side-scan

Hello,

Here are two samples that I shot yesterday with my homebuilt side-scan.
It uses 6 pcs lowrance 20 degree / 200 kHz transducers with paralell connection. As you can see there is some optimizing to do still...

Unfortunately I was impatient enough not to let the glue dry enough so I got a leak in the fish, but I think the transducers were not damaged.

Its so much fun to see that the theory works in practice!

Hi,
The units that I have built and am in the process of marketing are based on Lowrance echo sounders (fish finders). They record data to MMC cards which is why I use them. They have custom external microprocessor circuitry added to them as well as custom made transducer. You will find many more images in my other postings over the past couple months. Here are some rocks in a 100 ft range.

Take a look at http://www.burtonelectronics.com/ for updated info about G.Burtons SSS.
It seems like he has got a bit further in development of the units.
His site contains a lot of good sidescan images, and information about his various systems offered.
