    Hi RIROCK,

    I got Edgeteck's response today.
Interesting to note a couple of things...
First he asks me what company I'm from (does it mean they give deals or better discounts to known corporations??? )

Also he confirms what I presumed. Apparently they carry better units.
But despite the fact the 4125 might not be their top of the line unit, still it might be a good deal in terms of cost and benefit. The only drawback which might be an issue in the long run is that this model is said for shallow water.

You think this is a major problem? Altough I'll be researching in average depths up to 240 feet, you never know when deeper researches might occur.

    Here's the message I got:

    Hello,

Before providing you with pricing for the 4125 I would like to get some more information. What company are you with? Also, what are your applications and from what type/size vessel will you be working? This is a very high resolution system that is ideally suited for shallow water operation for applications such as search & recovery, harbor/port security, etc. If you are looking for an overall survey tool we have other systems that would be better suited for you. In any event, please let me know and I will follow up with a recommendation and corresponding pricing. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

For overall surveying, reliability etc. you cant do better than the 4100 system, its the more modern version of what we use, and is a bit of an industry 'standard'

what ype of research where, etc..?

        Hi Bryan,

I'm aware there are other great brands of side scan sonars but since I don't have experience on them, I decided to get help here. Your suggestion of Edgetech is fully welcome as there's even a government organization I know here in Brazil that uses an old model from them.

I also think your suggestion of model 4125 is from what I've read, perfect in terms of cost and benefit. My only worry is the depth range of this unit, since it's not intended for deep waters. But this is relative.

Besides ground research, I lead a private sea team who does search for shipwrecks and sunken treasure. We usually research in locations which they abound, but water is not so deep going to 130 feet max. So I think for this situation the 4125 is fine.

But what if we decide to go to deeper waters, Could we still employ this model to fit our purposes?
I don't know, but probably not, as you would loose in resolution.
So they offer (according to the email they sent me) better resolution units which I presume they are refering to 4200 , 4300 and even the SAS unit models.

If you had the income to get any of those, which one would you choose based on the requirements I described?

        Thanks in advance.
        Regards.

4200. depth rating to 300m sounds more to your needs. the 4125 is rated to 100m though...

              EdgeTech take another look

I work in the Geo industry we currently use Edgetech gear. GO WITH A KLEIN DIGITAL.
You will be glad you did. The older 272 are work horses and good gear. But edgetech
and their shallow water systems have been lacking, especially for the new AUV systems.
Poor data, expensive as hell for what you get. KLEIN......... Best thing out there.

                Do you work for Klein
What aspect of the Geo-industry? mapping? Oil? Salvage? Consulting? Academic>

We've been toying with upgrading, and Klein was/is an option, but they seem to lack the high freq. data collection option. We had 100/500 capabilities with the EdgeTech, but would want something more like 300/600 or higher for a new system.

Our ultimate wish-list is a T-B interferrometric; but a bit more $$ than we can probably swing.
