  • Fisher Impulse problem

    Hy
I own a Fisher Impulse underwater detector.
Unfortunately, sea water got into the battery compartment. I cleaned it out and dried it.
The problem is that my manual tuning knob has stopped working and the detector wont tune. The detection has almost ceased unless it is a large iron object. The coil dosent see coins or other small metal objects.
It was working correctly before the flood.
The forums say the battery compartment is fully sealed and water cant ingress into the main control area.
Is there anything else i can do to recify the problem.
As my trusty detector is quite old now, its not worth sending it off for repair.
Ive got nothing to lose by opening the main control box to see if water has got in.

Can anyone explain how I open up the main control box.

    Hoping someone can help me

Sorry to say, but you probably got water in the main area. In the bottom of the battery compartment there are 2 foam strips, peel them up. Underneath are 4 screws that hold the case together, remove the screws. Carefully work the faceplate off, don't scratch or mar any of the sealing surfaces. The faceplate & PCBs slide out as an assembly. You may need to loosen the Hayco fittings so the loop & headphone cables can slide through as the assembly is removed.

      Hy Carl
      Thanks for the information.
I managed to open the Impulse main control unit.
Bone dry and no sign of any leaks.
Unless the battery compartment soaking damaged some components by the battery shorting in the water, Im now stumped.
The tuning knob dosent do anything at the moment.
could it be the coil and not the tuning ?
