  • AN/PS11 question

I would like to hear from anyone who's used one for metal detecting and what kind of depth you can get with one. I emailed the AN/PS11 link and the guy said he never actually used it but once in his backyard.

According to the online manual it can handle salt ground and mineralized soil which for a gold nugget machine is fantastic. Fair Radio Sales has them for $75 used-not bad!

    Re: AN/PS11 question

    Hi Randy,

I got one off ebay for $49, no case or spare modules though. Even converted it to use a std 9v battery, really easy to do. But I haven't taken it out for a field test. Bench tests show only modest performance but I did not try a gold nugget. One thing is the audio is a high pitch squeal at just about the resonant peak of human hearing, so it's painful to use for any length of time. You could probably alter this.

Carl could you do me a favour?

Could you take a small lead fishing weight out in your yard and try a depth test sometime? I would really appreciate it as I can't afford to buy one to just try out. Thanks. Just about finished with the fatquarters Magnetometer kit of yours. Will let you know how that works out.

Sure, I'll give it a try. On the mag, the SCL007 chip has a sensitivity mode set by pin 1. I have it pulled high with a resistor which is low sensitivity. If you ground pin 1, you will get 8x the sens., however I could never get my sensors aligned good enough to make it useful. See what you can do.
