congratulations to your book. A book like that, about the technical aspects of metal detectors has been on the wish list of many for a long time.

It was also on Carl's and my list for a very long time, so we decided to do something about it. You just cannot overestimate the amount of work it's taken to get this far.

First error of the book... cover has the DFX schematic, but inside caption says it's the XLT. I changed it at the last second and forgot to update the caption.

That's one error to you then.
Now I see that it does actually say "DFX MAIN PCB" at the bottom right.
        Apologies to Taktyk.

          Splendid!
So, now we will have chance to trace DFX schematic out from book covers!

            Hi Qiaozhi,

are you George Overton? Just wondering about your nick.
(PS: I like the Chinese... I had a workmate in Siemens/Munic and he is a very decent and polite guy.)

Carl will be moving the book ordering details to a dedicated area in the near future.
I know you know but I'm having a little fun... is this global crisis affected the sale of detectors, and turned to selling books?
But let's now something serious: other than White's XLT scheme, what else can be expected (i think the schemes)?

Yes - and I'm English, not Chinese; but can speak a little Mandarin (Putonghua).
Qiaozhi is a common translation of George into pinyin. It's difficult to explain here with the rising and falling tones, and the pinyin pronunciation.

                      congrats on your realize.

Carl, can you ask in your company why a TX and RX wire are shielded together (green and white) in the King Cobra, photos, and this seems strange for me.

Between us, Carl and I probably have nearly every technical detector book that's available. Well ... the ones that are any good anyway. Apart from a few project-based books, there is really very little information publised on metal detector technology, and most of these are quite old and don't go into detail. We were determined to plug this hole in the market, and hence "Inside the Metal Detector" was conceived.

You should be able to get an idea of what's on offer from the Contents List shown above. There is everything from the humble BFO, through to an off-resonance design, and TR, IB and PI detectors. We have even covered LRLs and an experimental Pistol Detector. There's something for everyone.

We looked at the possibility of selling through Amazon, but even with their "Sell a Little" plan, the fees for books are 15% of the total cost (including shipping). Other schemes they offer are even more expensive.

I would have used the "hat" smiley, but Carl hasn't got around to installing these yet.

                              Congrats to the authors.

I have a bible titled "The art of electronics". It is written by two authors only.
                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_Electronics

I think this is very dificult work for two mens, because since 1989 they can not make new edition and because my other bible "ARRL Handbook" has lot of editions, but it is written by lot of authors.

Here is for fun the first modification of new bible cover according to the information in this thread.
The Red Baron was produced by Bounty Hunter and designed by George Calvin Payne at end of seventies.
(Now we know how George is translated in Chinese :-)

                              Qiaozhi and Carl,
please don't stop and start to write the new edition with a CD ROM as book addition.

                                Excellent.
The book will help popularise construction and use of metal detectors across the world.
