  • Compass X-70 detector problem

About 5 years ago I was doing a mod on my X-70 by mounting it on a straight rod. I got most of it done and was getting ready to power it up (while I was talking on the phone...not smart!!) and I connected the power reverse polarity. By the time I realized it the damage was done...killed it!! I started trouble-shooting it and found a blown transistor so replaced it and got some life out of it, but not much. It would turn on and peg the needle to show batteries where good and then settle back to zero and the detector would not do anything more after that.

I was hoping someone on this forum would have an idea where I should look for damage caused by reverse polarity?

    Cheers.

Take some clear close ups of the PCB and post them and I'm sure someone can help out.

Problem is that the whole circuit board was encased in a plastic film and hard to see what components are.

Since it's otherwise a basket case, might as well remove the coating to reveal the damage.
Don't know what the safe method of removal is but you might get a response here within a day or two.
I might try alcohol, acetone, paint stripper in that order. That's just me.
