I'm not a great fan of so-called Super Glue. The only thing that's "super" about it, is the speed at which it sets. Even then [due to Health & Safety] it now takes much longer than it used to. In the days when it was called Cynoacrylate, you could successfully stick your fingers together (or your eyelids) in a fraction of a second.

I fixed my tactile switches in place with rapid epoxy (Araldite).

Cyanoacrylate is crazy stuff, it even can be used as first aid-treatment for wounds.

The replacement with the litte buttons is great - and much more reliable than this flat-metal-press-stuff.

It's finally complete! After the superglue disaster, I made a new PCB and ordered new switches. I finally had time to assemble and install the new keypad today. It works very well. The switches have a nice feeling when they are pressed. You know when they are actuated. Just need to test in the field now. Maybe tomorrow morning if not too cold. I used double-sided carpet tape to secure the PCB to the chassis and also to attach the original faceplate to the new keypad PCB. Here are a few pictures.

Great work, now it should last forever!

If some of my MD keypads should make trouble I will also go for such kind of real reliable solution.
Double-sided carpet tape can be extremly sticky and for smaller stuff those double sided little white
sqares to attach photos in albums also do well.
