  • Whites Eagle Spectrum problem.

Just replaced my lcd sreen as the back light was not working.
I don't know what happened but when I turned the unit back on I
got a pulsing high pitched whine and rubbish displayed in the screen.
I disconnected the EL backlight wire and removed the dc/dc converter and transistor,
and got a normal welcome screen.
I could scroll up but not down.I got the usual beep as I pressed the keys.
The unit would not go into the Ground balance sequence.
Strange that I get the usual beep as I press the keys ,but nothing happens.
    Any clues?
    Cheers

Seems the backlight EL foil is broken (it overloads the converter). It should be sufficient just to disconnect the foil, and not to remove the DC/DC converter.

Now, if the AIR balancig screen does not appear, it may indicate the ENTER button does not work. It is not clear from your description.

The touchpad apparently needs to be replaced. Make sure it seats properly in the socket and check for any signs of corrosion at the connectors.

This is what is happening.I can press the enter button,
I get a beep, but nothing happens.Iam concerned that I have damaged some component by the
      overload from the EL backlight.
If the touchpad was damaged why do I recieve a beep when pressed?
Also as previously mentioned the up scroll beeps but does not move on the LCD.
      Cheers

It appears that I do have problem with the touchpad.
The plastic ribbon is cracked and some buttons are giving a high resistance.
Where would I get a replacement?
        Do whites sell there parts.
as I live in Australia,It would not be cost viable to ship
        the unit to Oregan.
        cheers

Yes, White's sells parts. If it's the older "Eagle" with the tall vertical keypad we got no more of those. If it's the "Eagle Spectrum" with the 5-button keypad we got those. Email [email protected].

Thanks Carl, mine is the 5 button model.I will try that.
If no luck I may have to mod the unit with 5 tactile momentary switches.
            Regards
