hey guys this is a great place thanks for giving me so much data on the eliminator coil. Can I ask another dumb question - I was reading over on the PI forum about +ve and -ve, when a detector has +ve and -ve, what are they talking about? I woudl think that the detector would transmit a sine wave which would have +v and ground (or return) as the two terminals but then again im a novice when it comes to electronics and just trying to explain some of this to myself thanks for reading!

Re: +ve and -ve
Hi Tim,
Most detectors use dual supplies for their circuitry. The battery is usually regulated down to 5 volts for the +v supply, and a voltage inverter is used to generate a -5v supply for -v. The reason for this is that it's easier to set the receive signal up to swing positive/negative about ground, so the opamps used in the RX circuitry will need +/- supplies.
