  • On board recharging

My Beachscan P.I. works very well but has one drawback that really annoys me....the need to carry a screwdriver to change/charge the 8x1.5 volt batteries. I have a suitable charger and a socket I could fix into the battery compartment but have had conflicting advice about whether I can just piggy-back onto the the wires from the battery holder to the circuit board or if I need some form of switch to isolate the batteries whilst charging is underway.
Many thanks if you can help.

The on/off switch should isolate the battery & charger from the circuit. If it's a double-throw switch you could hook the charger into the unused side, such that the charger is connected only when the power switch is in the off position.

Thanks Carl....there was a posting saying that the fact a detector is switched off would be sufficient but I did not like the idea of frying the circuits so I came to the experts.
