  • Ebinger 420 Pb metal detector

    Hi
I need to know if anyone knows or have some expirence with Ebinger 420 Pb metal detector , wich is a pi military machine.
Here in my country there is a guy who is selling one of these, but i just want to make shure the units works fine for detecting small pices of metal like a bullet 5 to 8 mm in diameter and of course bigger targets.
If o get this unit my idea is to do some mods on the arm stearn and may be on the battery compartment to allow recargable batteries.
Also will be very helpfull to know about electronics if components to replace in case of fault are hard to get.

In advance many thanks for your help

    Regards

Hi, parts are standard but hard to get it out of detector - all electronics is poted with glass like material. You can take the "bar" out of the pipe and then fun begins. Be careful when separating pipes - the wireing to the pots and connectors is short so it can be easy brocken if the pipe pulled with impact. There is one pot available inside ???. Usualy units are sold with manual but no schematics (anyway there is nice chapter about theory of PI).
    In my opinion worth $300.

I had a chance to try some UXO detectors, and from that point on I am completely disillusioned about the market leader in this technology. This Ebinger thing is a nice piece, not the sexiest of all, but surely very nice for prolonged periods of use. You should try it with rechargeable batteries first though.
All UXO detectors are capable of finding very small objects, so no mystery there. You can seek a dissertation by Mate Gaal, "Trial Design for Testing and Evaluation in Humanitarian Mine Clearance"
It also deals with this Ebinger.

I have one. It detects small pieces of wires, staples, small pieces of canslaw and alu foil. I got a 30 mm coin down from 30 cm. On the beach I used it it was a little too sensitive to the ground - but you can live with that, targer response is sharp. I wrote a short field test report in Czech - try to use google translate on this page: http://www.lovecpokladu.cz/home/mino...-na-plazi-5531

There is no need for rechargeable batteries, the normal ones last almost forever

These are my best finds from one heavily hunted out beach in Denmark (I hunted it out myself The coin's diameter is 23mm, its weight 4.5g and its thickness 1.5mm. The ring is very tiny 835 silver.
