  • Gary Pulse 1 - Recent Build

Hey all......have ordered a Pulse 1 kit from Gary (Chemelec). Question - has anyone built one of these recently and if so do you have any tips or tricks to pass on?????

Also any settings and tests results would be appreciated........

My tip(s) for this project is to build yourself a good mono coil and a lightweight coil housing. This is a good quality circuit and does perform well. Experiment with capacitor C11, this changes the frequency and may give better sensitivity to small objects. The only setback is that you lose stability and frequent adjustment of the threshhold pot is required. After soldering on all components clean the board to remove all flux residue.

      Thanks Finderskeepers,
Thats just the sort of helpful info I am after. Your positive comments towards the circuit give me confidence also. I have seen other positive comments about this detector which leads me to wonder what commercially available detector would this one be comparable to (coil aside) out of interest........
The only problems I have seen so far is where people dont solder properly or they have installed things incorrectly......attention to detail is the lesson for me....

can i change this to a pulse 2 at a later time by adding the parts that i didn't order

Just finished a Gary Pulse 1 and its a beauty. I am pulling stuff out of the ground left , right and centre down to 6+ inches. Mostly trash but I am just getting used to it so I am playing around near home.
With regard to the Pulse 2 I have the following thoughts. I actually reckon Gary may have build the 2 first then tuned all the knobs to the best settings. He would have then substituted resitors in to match tthose settings on the knobs and voila! , a permantley set "best settings" Pulse 2 now known as a Pulse 1. As I said this is all just a guess but Gary's a pretty smart guy and is really committed to what he does and helping others so I think I will be near the mark with my little theory. The other side of the coin is that, while the circuits components heat up a bit (from being turned on and from being in the sun etc), you have to make quite a few adjustments to the beep knob so that is enough fiddling for me. I am about to send Gary pics of my little detector so you will be able to see them on his webstite..Look for Dave from Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
