  • Minelab Profind DIF

The Profind has DIF that is designed such that a detector like the gpx5000 won't pick it up in close proximity. I imagine this would normally happen due to the ferrite in the sense coil. I did't think of it before but i have detectors that can sense a small bit of ferrite from pretty far away. So what are they doing to eliminate this problem? Are all other pinpointers susceptible to this?

    Hi Bklein,

See this thread where I found an electronic solution to the problem. Seems Minelab thought my idea was a great idea so they produced their own pinpointer and included it. Still waiting for my first paycheck though..... I don't think they would have implemented it in exactly the same way as I did on the propointer, but the whole concept is the same. Anybody found a patent on it?

Ok, so doesn't appear to be the ferrite then. I wonder if cellphones with NFC coils will be the next issue...
Any link to a Profind teardown? I'm curious to see how complex it is.
