It's interesting they don't say how deep it was buried. Most likely it was fairly close to the surface, and this guy was the lucky one who just happened to go over it with his detector.

No doubt Minelab will make some mileage over this.

N.N. Taleb often warns how largest gains are a consequence of luck, and not skill. All the difference between a regular Joe, and the one that stroke a huge chunk of gold is luck. Good for him.

The best part is that there are many more yet to be found.

Hey guys,

I've made an EM (coil) and circuit simulation and the result showed, that it is really plausible and detectable!
Some details of the story might be "fishy" but the monster nugget can be detected with such a small coil on hot ground. There is enough signal left to detect it.

It's Gold Digger Dave here from Miners Den, been awhile since I've posted up a find, but have to share this one, as it gives us all hope of finding 'The Big One'....

A regular customer came into the Miner’s Den Sydney store and brought in an enormous 36 KILOGRAM specimen of quartz the other day. He’d found it with his Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector very close (within 25 feet) of his last major find.

He brought in the quartz because I’d asked him to show me the next chunk before he crushed it to extract any gold. We photographed the quartz and found that it did indeed have a strong metal content inside.
This specimen triggered a strong response from the Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector and even the store’s Minelab Pro-Find 25 Pin Pointer before crushing.

The ingot below is HALF of what came out of the specimen: 7,134 grams. The second ingot was almost the same weight.
The large slab of quartz and a smaller one combined to produce just over 14 kg’s of fine gold.

Worth in excess of $500,000.

This is the second such specimen brought in by the same prospector within four months.

Very few hard facts on this story from any source - and I guess there won't be much, as the fellow who found it will keep the exact site a big secret in hopes of digging up another

Then again, there's little to say he didn't use a ML detector? A "reliable sauce" is just the same as rumor mill without those quotable sources. And again, as far as I know no MD manufacturers have disclaimers in their advertising, saying that big finds that pay one's investment in time and gear back are rather uncommon! There's always at least an implied claim that there's treasure here and there for people to dig up - only the galleries for the finds, and no galleries with photos of uneventful beeping trips

(The more imaginative ones might even deduce the finder claimed it was a Moneylab detector on purpose to secure his stash of nuggets )

We find these nuggets all the time, but we usually re bury them so they can grow bigger.

This gold is not the one found in Ballarat Victoria of 177 ounces.

By the looks of it, it looks to be reef gold and found on the surface going by the dry moss on one side. Love the smokey quartz embeded into it.
