Bernard,hello..it appears this picture shows maybe an other PCB.
I am still building as per my last post..should I stop and follow a new design.
Iam so close to try it...I have V2 with Pic 16F1824 with out 8 Mhz Xtal.

Hi John,
the build with the elbow crutch is PCB V1 -- you are fine with the new PCB layout.
The only difference is that the potmeter/switch combo is now integrated on the board.

I use a round silicone baking mould - for baking cakes - costs around 10€.
Inside I glued the inner "hole" for the fixation brackets and cable connection. This piece of circular scrap plastic (don't remember where it came from) was siliconed to the mould.
Before pouring in the 2-component resin, I have to rub some Vaseline to the inner plastic. The rest of the silicone mould doesn't need this, the resin does not stick to it.

Just got my build up and running,only one mistake.
I had an electro cap backwards,now its all happy.
Can detect a beer can in my steel shed at .5 metre.
I will make a new coil,not happy with my old one.
More to do.

I already ported the original code from 16F616 to 16F1824 because this is a newer microcontroller with more resources.
You can order free samples ( 3 at a time ) from Microchip: http://www.microchip.com/samples/Default.aspx
It takes about 4 weeks before they arrive.
