  • Important to meteorites

Have recently read that metal deterorists
searhing for meteorites are actually destroying
    valuable data!! How come?

They say that, meteors are not magnetic in their
natural state, they become slightely magentized
by the detectorists coil passing by in the search for the meteor, so the academic dudes
have serious problems determining the universe
age and build up, etc etc other stuff!

    A little "oooops", for meteorist's!!!!

    Re: Important to meteorites

    Hi BJ,

Where in the world did you read such a crock of bull? Obviously, the person who wrote this didn't know what they were talking about.

However, it sounds like something a person would write to try to keep people from looking for meteorites, probably so they would have the search to themselves.

One lightening strike anywhere close and the magnetic field of everything changes.

        Re: Important to meteorites

I read about it in either National Geographic
or if it was in New Sience or was the name
        sience,! im not 100% shure!

The article was written by "reputated"
        journalists interwieving "reputable" siencists
from a reputable american university located at
the american base at the south pole, if im not
remembering the whole story completely wrong! :-S...

Btw, it didnt sound to be an, "stay avay, im a
reputate academic, you are just a dork" but as
you say, it can indirectly clearly be like that.

Archeologists are defetively like that, very
high ego factor,(peronal experience). they hate
        anyone speaking about metaldetectors,not to
mentioning one actually using it, at least
where im located!(if im allowed to generalize
        a bit!).
