  • Towing a large coil behind vehicle?

Just a quick feasibility question before i get sidetracked from my MD.

Was wondering how realistic a 1-2 meter coil being towed behind a vehicle traveling say 10-20km per hour using PI would be?

If you had a really high frequency, like as high as you can go to compensate for the speed.

Would the earth field effect, engine noise etc be too hard to overcome?

In essence, what are the practical limitations of PI? In terms of sweep speed etc?

Targets would be large gold nuggets at 1-2m depth.

Any insight into this approach would be greatly appreciated.

Just as you say, a high pulse repetition rate would be needed. The TINKERERS can do that. I also experimented with a 2 x 1 meter coil and the sensitivity was fine.

There are some problems to be solved still.

A motion method detector can be designed for that speed, however, it will be sensitive to bumps. Better to use a non motion type, but there is still the problem of fast changing Ground Balance compensation to be sorted out.
The Earth Field response will be higher at fast speed, but compensation for that is easy.

Such a setup might find quite a few buyers in Australia.
