A friend of mine has just made a motion metal detector that also has an VLF mode,with full discrimination using a single coil,is this a first or has it been done before?

Pawel, do you know if it is possible to purchase the book in English?
The single-coil design shown is similar to an induction balance design, except that the balance is achieved electrically in a half-bridge, rather than through magnetic induction. The primary advantage is that it simplifies construction of the coil. The primary disadvantage is that the precision and stability of balance achieveable through electrical balance in a half-bridge is not as good as can be achieved with induction balance.
