  • A document on electromagnetic induction, its applications in metal detectors, and signals extraction

An interesting document detailing demining - but from chapter 2 onwards, the principles of electromagnetic induction, as far as they apply to metal detectors - some food for thought regarding various physical configurations and terrain/target responses. It doesn't touch the topic of electronics design as much as it does electromagnetics applied in excitation and reception, and quite a bit on the extracted signals processing. The main area of the document is frequency domain, but the implications for time domain measurements remain.

"A Multidisciplinary Analysis of Frequency Domain Metal Detectors for Humanitarian Demining", can be downloaded at the source: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.117.7277
The pdf symbol is the download link. At 7.3Mb it's too big to fit as attachments, unfortunately.
There is also a direct download link at a mirror: http://www.eudem.vub.ac.be/files/phd...alv2lowres.pdf

However, it's formatted more like the physics textbook (PTB) model, than the balkan-quiz (BQM) method of education?

The sources cited in this document could be a good start for further in-depth (haha) studies into the topics. Also, the context of the document besides metal detecting is a bit of warning reminder to dig with discretion in areas where conflicts have been fought with modern arms. If the author happens to read this forum, many thanks!

Another interesting document, shorter and more precisely on the topic of terrain issues and search head patterns.

        The reference is
[19] C. Moreland., “Coil basics,” Geotech, Tech. Rep., 2006. [Online].
        Available:

However I found that this link does not work. Then why are you saying it's interesting, since you can not read it?
Scientists in Brussels think you have great merit for humanitarian demining.
I hope you will find soon an article in Scientific American from 1915 on demining

There are two women in Bulgaria who design metal detectors. One of them (Rosi Georgieva) wrote an article on coil and search head deasign. Here is the part 1 written in 2007.
We are waiting six years she to write the part 2.
Rosi, are you participant of this forum?
