  • Very interesting information. We could write a book with our question and answer sessions.
Funfinder you speak about your set up being the DeepHunter with the Mode 2 and 45cm coil.
At what point to you switch to Mode 1 in the hunt. Or do you not switch to mode 1 at all anymore?

    • Great idea with the book - but I also like it that all this info is available here
for free and who wants it can have it - no matter what detector he uses.

For beginners this can really make a big difference - when I'm remembering back
to my child-days with my first metal detector, someone really should have
told me that I have to search very fast through real big areas per day!
OK - with one concern - I doubt I would have had enough strenght and
experience geting all the crazy stuff out of the ground and carry it home!

Which brings us to your question - mode 1 (non-motion) vs. mode 2 (motion).

In my case it really depends on the backpack-weight and at what region I'm looking:

My DeepHunter so far is not moded to more lightweight concerning the 45cm nonmotion coil.
It needs the original coil-poles and handle because of the special touchpad buttons and the
whole thing weights alot more than my modified Jeohunter with its 45cm nonmotion coil.

The DeepHunter's 45cm motion coil incl. the complete poles and cable has ca. 1300 grams
compared to ca. 2,2kg (I don't have the exact values so far) for the non-motion setup.
Using the lightweight modded Jeohunter with its 45cm coil weights ca. 1700 grams.

      But the main point is:
Depending on the region of course I would use either the motion or the nonmotion setup.
At huge woods where most of the stuff is not deeper than 30cm the lightweight 45cm motion coil
is really fantastic while at old ruins with strong walls etc. the non-motion coils are the best choice.

Just for the benefits of the very deep 45cm motion circuit the CoinFinder CF77 is a good alternative
but someone really should modify it into direction: ultra lightweight. But its not very complicated.

The main difference so far between motion and nonmotion is the search-method and -speed.
The non-motion coil needs more muscle power to handle so you can't run through huge areas
over a longer time but for smaller locations and for deeper and cavity stuff its better and deeper.
Especially at old ruins with thick stones or cellars, at mineralized areas or for hunting meteorites.

It really depends on your main goals and if you know already locations which needs "special powers".

      • Funfinder would you speak to us about the proper way to dig holes.
Economy of motion, technique and equipment. Thank you!

        • I'm glad you're asking, landman, because this topic really can be useful for alot people.
And therefore below you even can find a selfdrawn sketch (10min work, no prob).

          Tools:

-o- spade (55cm - 2 ft. long, pole made of tough plastic because of weight and temperature if its cold outside)
          -o- jigsaw (for tree-roots stronger than 2'' or 5cm)
-o- scratcher (pulling-out hook to grab stuff behind roots, stones, cracks etc.)

The spade really should have saw pinks at one side to chop, slash and cut roots, whole lenght.
Usually you can't buy such spades, but a flex (angle grinder) will do the job very fast on a steel-blade.
Everyone should be careful with such tools or some car service station also will do the job.
And the other side of the blade should be a bit sharp, so it penetrates better the ground and
someone even can defend itselve against wild animals or other dangerous things.

          digging:

First of course a really most exactly pinpointing with the detector should be done.
Second it is a good idea to use directly a sensitive additional pinpointer on the ground
because around 1 out of 4 finds can be found with it already very near below or even on the surface.

To spare and conserve nature and plants the best thing is to use in the beginning
just two spade engravings at 90° angle as shown on the picture (1)* and fold back the grass or ground.
          *(#) = see picture

This way you can get already a 20x20cm hole and 15cm deep and if the find was retrieved
successfully almost no trace at all from the digging will remain if you close the hole!
You can dig in every private garden at night and noone will have the slightest clue!
Of course someone shouldn't do it or may get caught, but the method is perfect!

btw. the most stupid idea is using a pick-axe for digging as long as it is not concrete-hard ground!
This tool only creates a huge mess and destroys all the plants, worms and insects - i hate it!
And afterwards everyone can see that someone was digging there - like a dog!

          Using Gloves:

Using them sometimes its better, sometimes not - it really depends.
Most of the time the finger-cut-injuries are pretty unproblematically if working careful and because of the
better work flow someone can risk it. Of course there always can be glass-shards, barbed-wire or even
(broken) knife-blades below (I found alot and not always rusty) but often it just sucks to work with gloves.

If the 2 spade stabs are not working, because the find is deeper or its somehow special shaped
so that its located at a completly different position as shown by the detector, you may add first
a third one and fold back the grass-scar again (2). This will give you the option to dig out much
          more material from the hole.

For large and deep finds its the best to remove directly a "grass-cap" by
5 to 8 spade-cuts into the ground (3)! In such case the opening will have ca. 30cm diameter
and someone can dig down to 2ft or 65ft without problems.

          Digging at special locations:

          Whatever is needed or works:
          sand-scoop, neodynium-magnet, sledge-hammer, big pick-axe, dynamite, drill, excavator etc.

          Important note:

Digging always should go from the outside to the inside so the find will remain intact
or directly untouched in case of dangerous or very fragile or rare stuff or artifacts.

That's why some experience is needed for the treasure-hunter so he will be able
to decide already by the strenght and "shape" of the find-signal if its a pretty small thing
or something deeper. Larger finds most of the time can be detected in "UFO-shape"
(this is the shape of the coil movement over the ground with everywhere the same signal)
from 20cm above the surface to 30cm everywhere at the side of the center of the main signal.
A 0.33 soda-can buried at 30cm demonstrates it pretty good.

Digging holes without making too much noise also could be important if the shovel hits larger boulders.
But after some larger holes with stones its just a question of experience and how using the shovel as a lever
until the work will become more quiet and trained.

          additional info:

Always have some plastic-bags etc. ready for special finds
or to wrap them for extra care. Toilet-paper always can be useful but also huge plastic bags.
And since a long time I put all the small finds into a seperate bag so I know where they are.

          • What about a tarp, plastic or canvas to house the dug dirt
so you can place it back in the hole so not to mess the area up nor tip
off others that digging was going on here.

              • The shown spade is far too complicated, large and looks somehow unstable.
You may even break your wrist with it!

The soil material can be scratched just back into the hole or someone can put a plastic-bag on the ground and place it there.

btw. a very useful tool for treasure-hunting are professional made gumboots (wellingtons etc.).
Also knee-pads as a protection and to make yourself more comfortable - because its alot kneeling time.

The simplest method is to hold the MD or coil in one hand and a small backpack hooked under by the spade in the other.
Holding the pole of the spade in the middle to carry the backpack with enough place for finds and drinks etc.
And its better if the backpack is waterproof and it doesn't use a zipper (because they can wear out) but a cord.

landman - do you have already some time-schedule for starting your big treasure-hunt?
Seen from the information-level, you should have meanwhile everything important together. Very good so far!
But perhaps you still are looking for the right and best possible detector.
btw. are you interested in a book showing fantastic Inca-artifacts? You may wanna see or find them...

                  • check your PM's, landman.

This new info is interesting but within the range of possibilities.

Competition and "do your own thing" versus "learn from each other" and cooperation.

If Nokta and Makro Group now really found a working ground-base and agreement
how to deal with the different points of view, it will lead to great developments.

Because "fighting each other" also can use up alot ressources, money and energy.
But of course in life also always important is: "self-realize your own convictions"
if someone really is not satisfied if things works different.
Divorced couples (but later still friends because of the children etc.) can sing a song about it ...

And beyond all those reasons - we have here turkish mentality with a huge amount of pride
but also with a huge amount of family-sense and the pragmatic attitude of being the best.
If it meanwhile has become lucrative for Nokta and Makro Group working together and
learn from each other or working out good compromises it will result in extreme great improvements.

You know, landman, this is western Turkey and some mixture of european, slavic and arabic mentality.
Istanbul was a melting pot of cultures and some important trading-spot since almost 5000 years.
What works there is "flexible mind" so they can deal with all kind of different views of life and new developments.

Seen from the view of the users and customers competition leads to better prices
but if they throw now both knowhow-pools and experiences into one pot it can lead to real
                    large steps of improvement.

The micro- and computer-electronic division is one thing but creating real deep and
stable coils and circuits still remains the "main frame" or the core of metal detection.

Now they have to find a way to combine those both components so for the consumer
the most deep, reliable, user friendly and innovative detectors become creatable.
Including attractive price-levels and a palette of products where everyone finds something fiting.

Important is the fact how fast and good a company is able to realize and implement improvements -
                    best example the smart-phone-branche.
We will see how successful will be the Nokta and Makro-Group jointventure and how constructive and creative it is.

                    • Heavy Mineralization Test

Today it took me some hours for this test but it was worth it:

mixed metal objects, 20cm x 20cm in size,
buried 50cm deep in total - 25cm usual stones and sand and on top of this a 25cm thick layer of high mineralized bricks.

This large test objects hoard simulates how big are the chances to find at higher mineralized soil
anything at all if its buried a half meter or deeper !!! This is really important at locations where
are mineralized rocks and stuff everywhere.

                      Results:

Garrett EuroAce 28cm coil - failed
DeepHunter motion circuit 33cm coil - failed
JeoHunter & DeepHunter nonmotion circuit 45cm coil - success
                      Blisstool LTC64 28cm coil - success*
(*detectable just 20cm above surface level which reduces depth and only with enough experience)

The brick-layer above was 1,5 x 1x5 meter wide which is enough for such test and everywhere
almost the same thick. So if someone has roof-tiles or bricks at home he can try the same
                      with his own detector(s).

                      The important conclusion is:
If the region of interest is highly mineralized all the usual motion VLF detectors will fail !!!
Of course they still work for surface-near stuff but such usual detectors not even will find some
large 20cm x 20cm piece of metal if its buried just 50cm below.

Sunken stuff from muddy and loamy but afterwards dried out locations or ex-riverbeds
will be extremly hard to find - and many war relics can be especially found at such places.

I am very sorry to tell you this, but it really means that any serious treasure-hunter
that is eager to find real deep stuff and at mineralized regions must either have at least
one good P.I. detector (which means not the best or no iron-discrimination at all) or
some with its coil surface-near working non-motion detector! Those are also very stable against
electro-smog which makes them very useful everywhere.

The Blisstool is some "multi-talent" with its completly raw signal-processing but
without enough experience someone just will hear erratic beeps on mineralized soil.
The ground-effect gets reduces by a higher distance from the surface but of course this
also reduces the depth alot, so its not really the best compromise.
At least someone needs the 35cm coil to reach deeper stuff at high mineralized locations.
The real multi-talent is the DeepHunter with its chosable motion or non-motion circuits
and its selection of coils from small to even 1 meter and with cavity detection.

The Whites 808 twobox might detect only very large finds and the coils
are usually around 30-40cm away from ground which reduces alot of the depth.

A company called Demet from Poland also builts non-motion VLF detectors
with 35cm coils - those are analog and not for beginners, the price is ok and they are deep.

Some P.I.-detectors with 50cm coils should find deeper stuff at high mineralized soil
but also just with alot experience and reduced sensitivity because of the many
disturbing signals otherwise. The bigger the coil, the more disturbances can and often will occure!

Facit: Real depth only will be possible with non-motion or P.I. and large enough coils,
because the deeper a find is, the more mineralization will sum up which totally confuses
                      the usual detectors.

What do you think about these 2 new DRS technologies:
                        1) Sensor Vest
2.) Deep Scanner - that looks like something from OKM

                        • Hi landman, great you're back again, what have you done all the time?

My friend, your link is very interesting and I did't knew about this new company so far,
but I guess they intend to make a good job. mail them at: [email protected]

However for you or any treasure-hunter most important personally
is also to create the correct motivation and approach situation:

Shure someone needs the correct detector depending on the soil situation
but the same important is to get there and the whole surrounding organisation.

                          It means:
You can find the biggest treasure with a 25 year old detector just because you
have it easy to get to a lucrative spot and can spent thousands of hours there,
you don't have to got to work, you live in the vicinity of the treasure location,
money is no object to make all treasure-hunting days going fine and also the
                          motivation is during.

This was the case at middle England with the 1500 years old weapon-remainings hoard
and the guy who found this over 2.500.000 pound worth treasure was a person
over 50 with a half that age old detector and he had alot competition at this huge
and well known field or hunting location but still succeeded in the end.
(see docu: Treasure hoard - Secrets of the lost gold, National Geografic 2013)

In other words: You also can hit the jack with some usual detector if the other factors are real good!

However many people play lottery and think the investment of a few bucks each weak would be enough to
reach the top-reward and they're terrible wrong. I think the lottery companies have around 100% winning -
they invest an amount of 100% (for payouts, commercials, printing and employees etc.) and get back 200%.

Thats why a fiting detector always improve the chances -
but all in all seen this is not an amount of 100%, but just perhaps the half of it.

If I look at the DRS electronics page there are mainly magnetometer and P.I. devices.
They are from Colonia (Koeln, Germany) which usually has alot good hearted people and it's an old roman city
including alot places nearby lucrative for treasure-hunting.

                          1) The Sensor Vest: In my opinion this is such a "magnetometer-experiment" that has to be tested first absolutly.
I have no idea how far the body and the stuff in the pockets or other things influence it.
At least you need a smartphone that shows you directly the signal-intensity and if its in your pockets or hand while
you investigate the area it may be already enough to create distortions.

                          2) I can't find any device called "Deep Scanner" there, if you mean one of those magnetometers with
computer output I just can tell you to test them first and that those are mainly for larger ground anomalies
which also can turn out as "wrong alert" in the end.

The correct approach with treasure-hunting is to find out step by step what is needed and works best
at certain locations which means that someone first already has solved the surrounding details, then
starts to investigate the area and finds out if special equipment is needed or would work better.

Otherwise its like a gold-digger that has not enough food at the back of its muli for the whole season.

If you still wanna look somewhere at the Andes for deeper buried Inca etc. treasure for the beginning
you need at least a detector with 40-50cm coil, best non-motion or P.I. if the ground is highly mineralized.
We had all this info already. But how simple and easy and long you can proove your luck there is at least the
same important, if you know what I mean. In other words: If you have the best equipment but the whole
deal, work, expedition or some months or even years long trip there just is a not ending problem, it doesn't
                          pays off for you.

                          • Funfinder do you understand the relationship between the Deephunter's sensitivity setting and ground balancing settings as it pertains to having a proper
set up for any given soil on any given hunt? Such as went it does not ground balance well you can reduce the sensitivity by one and then GB again and see if that makes a difference. Seems the DH and GK need special attention in these 2 settings and especially as they relate to each other.

                            • Well, the main concept of ground balance overall (incl. automatic GEB for motion detectors) is to
cancel any possible signals from it so the signal-output-way of the buried metal stuff ist as disturbance- or
                              distortion-free as possible.

However ground-balance settings also can be used to make certain metals show up as clearly identified,
under certain ID numbers or with the same signal-output.

I don't want to make it complicated because it really is not -
the main question is not the DeepHunters or Golden Kings non-motion detectors GEB but the search-speed
                              if it comes to sensitivity.

You can set the Jeohunter or DeepHunter to -201 or +201 and you still will get metal-signals if those are
                              within the range.

Simple explained: The higher the mineralic soil the more it shifts metal-values into direction low (iron),
btw. this is seen from any MDs electronic.
Ground always works as some "let metal look "darker" or more low" filter or shielding.

                              Back to your question:
The sensitivity question has to do with: how fast and close to the soil can or want someone sweeps the coil
and how good is the contrast-factor the electronic still gets out of the soil (incl. smaller or larger coils depending
on the depth and size of the object).

                              Practically spoken:
If the ground is medium mineralized the DeepHunter with 45cm coil only 5cm above the ground
is easy to handle (not many false signals caused by the ground potential) with the reset-button at Ground Balance zero
and 80-90% sensitivity depending on the search speed.

If the ground is higher or very high mineralized it will automatically reduces the sensitivity for metals like silver, lead or alu
because it "filters" those stronger but with GEB -50 to -100 it will have almost the same depth power for iron, gold, copper, alloys
etc. as if there would be no strong mineralization.

Mainly seen even very high mineralic soil still is not so "heavy" as most people think. It only is a problem if it consists of
every 10cm changing mineraliziation level = medium with high mineralized rocks are changing each 20cm.
This drives motion-detectors completly mad and renders them unuseful, but with a nonmotion detector you can
set the complete high- and low-mineralization below the detectors reaction zone and so you just will get the
wanted real trigger signals, which also can be cavity because of the large contrast to the usual ground.

                              So finally spoken:
The whole relationship really depends mainly on search-speed and sensitivity setting if it comes to real working with the detector.
Ground Balance is used to make the contrast factor higher but you even could hunt extremly successful if a non-motion
detector would have no GEB at all as long as you're not very picky concerning matching metal-IDs.

At real hunting most of the time it works as following:

The nonmotion detector is set to "higher as should" sensitivity and sometimes gives erratic beeps coming from the
all the time slightly changing ground-coil distance (3-10 cm) and some mineralization distortions.
The smaller the coil the less such signals - but also the less depth and the much more sweeping work!
The user of the device knows from experience that it is 95% erratic noise and ignores it. But if the signal is different enough the
"closer looking" search and control phase 2 starts. At this stage you compare with the detector the area where the signal
has started with the surrounding one so you can be shure its a real buried object and because this now is much slower
also the depth and sensitivity raises alot.

One of the larger mistakes many treasure-hunters are making is wasting 80% of their time by taking the smallest
error-signals already for a serious find. This is OK if the lucrative site already is well defined but not if you have to
"brute-force-hunt" a huge area. This method is called: "think big".

                              • landman, I forgot some things to tell you and sorry for the not so fast replies
but for the moment my focus is not that much orientated on internet activity.

However there are some enjoyable and important news for ya:

                                1. Hurry up my friend or in better words: realize your good situation and go for it -
or others may take the treasures you can find, away!

                                read this:

Cocos Island Treasure found (but it was just one of a few others...)
                                http://worldnewsdailyreport.com/fabu...-cocos-island/

This is already Costa Rica, Middle to South America and the treasures are from the old indian folks of the andes!
If you look at the cross those are emeralds - mainly from Columbia.
And this treasure was just a little part of the whole fortune that was created, buried or captured and also LOST there.

btw. listen to the following song - its really sweet:
                                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikODijwZ-a0

it's romantic disco sound from Romania, summer 2014.

The next real good news ist this here:
                                http://nuggets.at/Makro-Detector-Dee...Metalldetektor

Please click on the british flag on top of the site for google-translation.

It means that you can get now the DeepHunter (and also the Golden King) directly from the middle
of Europe with highest standards, warranty, service and whatever!

This is not "turkish backyard bazar" or something like this, this is the ensurance for best quality,
safety, support, valuable electronic inside and one of the top notch aka high valuable products ever.

And if there are any problems even very reliable personal contact would be possible.

I just want to say it because we had some persons here before who had their doubts about
the depth, quality and performance of those special detectors from Turkey but as you can see,
those are really high "state of the art" standard and you can get from nuggets.at also all the other high
quality brands of the metal detector world. btw. Makro-Nokta also creates the mine-detectors for
the turkish military which is a very high responsability-task.

For a very good price meanwhile also the newest Makro Racer:
                                http://www.nuggets.at/Makro-Detector...Metalldetektor
is available (pls click the flag for tranlating it) which ist pretty lightweight, up to 40cm coil,
LED search light, vibration detection, easy to handle, bluethooth wireless headphone, metal ID
and other valuable features for just around 600 Euros.

However, landman, this is the motion-circuit and it may fail at very high mineralized soil or if
the soil-mineraliz. changes often. But anyway - its equipable with an already 40cm deep-hunting
coil so its really a very good and low price option for a high-sens. detector to search for already pretty deep treasures
under usual conditions or for you to check out first how valuable is the whole region where you hunt at all!

Anyway - keep in mind most important is to get yourself into a situation where your longlasting
motivation, your financial situation and your treasure-fever incl. good health condition and
psychical strongness enables you for extensive treasure-hunting trips!

Simple spoken: Someone with the possibilities and powers for a 6 month treasure hunt
and the badest equipment will absolutly have higher chances to find the real stuff
than a millionaire with luxury stuff but with only 2 weeks of spare time!
And the most important factor is your own motivation that you don't wanna quit after
                                just a few weeks.

You see that I keep everything in mind what counts and not just:
"What is the best device under certain situations?".

If I would join and support you directly you would see how easy it is in the end!
You would walk huge distances every day with high sensitivity- and large coil detectors
while having fun and motivation all day and already each treasure-hunting day itself would
be a fantastic value. Plus you would directly know how to act right so all of your efforts
turn out as luck and win bringing in the end, because its really unfair to lose a treasure
afterwards someone founds it, isn't it?! Keeping all those pretty different factors in mind
you just can and must have success if you concern them all and know them already like
I tried to make it possible and clear. But this is not thx to me, this is just normal way of
thinking and how to lead persons to real profitable activity. There may occure also other
very good methods, depending on special situation that come up, but that was the
"ground-pattern" that will and can lead anyone already to huge success.

Good luck, landman and don't wait too long in life if you really wanna succeed with special tasks!
