  • Frequency Adapter for White's Coil

This is my first post on this forum and I'm not very technical in electronics.

I have a new White's 5.3 Bullseye coil for my IDX. I just recently purchased an MXT Pro. I am curious to know if an adapter could be made that would allow the 6.595kHz coil to be used on the MXT? I've read in other post that the White's coils use a capacitor that makes them very frequency dependent.

    Thanks,
    Alan

you are welcome and congrats on good start. MXT DFX are working with un-resonance coil, ie without the capacitor on TX winding inside. 6.59kHz coil is with the capacitor inside (really there are bunch of them because tuning). do you want open and crack up bullsee coil? it is contraproductive way. sell it and forget.

I was thinking more of an in-line solution to keep the coil usable for my IDX. Sort of like the coils used on the short CB antennas.

          Thanks Dave.

Know I know not to chase this anymore.

"This is my first post on this forum and I'm not very technical in electronics."

Most of us on here fall into that category!

I think if you added a switchable shunt inductor it would make the cap disappear - so yes.

So that the coils internal cap -JXC was removed with the switched +jL

Ask on here for the actual L and C values in your coil

            OR

Need to measure the L of your coil - measure way below resonance e.g. 100Hz so internal cap does not cloud the meas. De-embed for Cap at 6.5k

Then get Xc which is 1/(2xPIx6500xC) result is Blah ohms
You then need an L which is Blah ohms at 6500 Hz

It is this L gets switched in and out (shunt connection) across the Tx wires.

This leaves just the original Tx L in the coil head - which is what you wanted..

Might be worth a go -

Disclaimer - Im not telling you to do this and I cannot be held resonsible to any of your equipment if damage occured using content from this or any other of my posts.

The L required would be the same value as the one in the coil to resonate out the cap - leaving the coil L in

you are STRANGE AND AMAZING people there. I say you NO. simple NO. it is ENOUGH. by the way Sweet Home closed the thread Tone mod for XL and SL at their forum. while I answered ONLY ONE TIME there! so sweet... what sht is going on??? why closed???
