Hello 6666. Great video! It seems that the 1000 has a respectable performance. Thanks for posting it.
I have a question: Is the relay knocker like small relays that were on the old telephone modems? Those look like that Digikey has, perhaps could be used for 2000.

    Regards,

    Fabian

The relay is nothing too fancy, but it needs to make a good mechanical vibration when it operates
so you can feel it or hear it.

Ok. We'll see if it works when it comes time to apply.

          Hi Fabian,
I just picked up an old pi1000! How did you get on with your build?

Hello Diggit. I have not had time to work on it, but it would be helpful to have some good photos of the PCB, Could you take them? I think it's a very interesting project and those photos would complete the information to advance the project. You have to take the pictures out into the sunlight and from different angles. If you can, would be great to complete the information about this exciting project ..

            Regards,

            Fabian

hi Fabian, I got some good pics from Pete Maynard on Treasuremaster PI 1000. Thank you Pete again. if you want them leave your email address and I will send.

              good luck

                  Hi Fabian,
Sure no problem, I'll take them for you. I had a feeling that you might need them thats why I bumped the thread! I'll have a look later although I was trying to open the waterproof housing last night, without success. I'm guessing it has not been opened in a few years but I'll try again later today.

I was also wondering if there is a way to build a small circuit for discrimination which then can be wired into the pi1000 PCB?

Hello Diggit. Thank you very much for your effort. If you get to take the pictures, will be great to finish the PCB's.

With regard to discrimination, I think there is no way to change IP detector to discriminate, only VLF can.

                    Regards

                    Fabian

He (Eric) made that detector (with the discrimination) over twenty years ago

                      Aziz,
Eric Foster made a true PI with a balanced searchcoil which could discriminate over twenty years ago. The problem is that the reactive component suffers from ground effect. Using filters such as a motion VLF will result in a major reduction of depth over a regular PI. In short it has been done and may well prove to be a method for the future once the problems involved with such designs are solved. The dream is to find a reliable method of making a regular PI discriminate like a VLF using only a mono coil.

Hi Dave, When you say "discriminate", do you mean determining if the target is ferrous or non-ferrous, or are you referring to distinguishing between different kinds of non-ferrous targets, such as zip-tabs and coins?
                      Allan
                      -----
                      Allan,
I am talking about a fully variable discrimination control such as the control found on a VLF. Maybe even a notch discriminate control to boot! The detector Eric made was ferrous / non ferrous only but it goes to show you how far ahead he has been for so long. He made that detector over twenty years ago!!!

Yes but is it possible to make the change proposed by Diggit?

Yes, and I have it on my PC. I really appreciate it! Now I will study them in order to advance the project.

In other matters: You want to explain here the problem you had with the cable that was cut? Maybe someone already disarmed one PI 1000 and know how to fix the problem. It is a great pity! You only had it for two days!

                              Regards,

The problem was one of the wires had broken connection so I fixed it, with a quick solder, once I located the problem! However the unit still seems to behave intermittently. I'm thinking either the coil is bad or else its very easily overloaded. I'm not sure how to test. I live in suburbia and there is a lot of junk in the ground and interference in the air, transmission lines, wifi, radio,DTV, cellular. I will try to make a new coil and test that.
