The Garrett Ace 250 is not designed for nugget hunting. It is a popular low-cost hobby detector for those just starting out in the hobby.
There are no, what you might call, cheap options.

If you are asking for really cheap option, this $50 detector can detect 1.1gram gold nugget at 7cm. So it is usable for start in prospecting. For comparitions: AT Gold prospecting dedicated and one of the best prospecting detectors can detect same nugget at 9cm (and 6cm in Discr 2 mode), the same my Tesoro Diablo II prospecting detector.

        Hi!

You even can use the Garrett 150 for gold nuggets (or the Euro-Ace) BUT you must buy the additional available 4'' (10cm) sniper coil for ca. 80 bucks.

However - finding goldnuggets which are "large" enough is an totally different huge problem.

Most gold is found in form of dust, flakes or sand, at least as long as you don't find a hoard of golden coins or other cache.
