  • First field trip with DIY Bandido umax II

Finally did it. First find was at about 4". It was a small nail, then another five. Next find was an odd shaped bit of metal, then my first bottle cap - quite a way down. After that a 4" piece of fencing wire, another cap, another bit of metal, and finally, on the footpath out of the woods, hard packed dirt...another bottle cap. I had to laugh at the last one. As I wiped the dirt off the label became clear. It said 'Bud'.

So it works. Didn't like my 10 turn GB pot so I have put in 100k one tune which I find easier to use. Next time, Gold cos there's gold in them thar hills.

Do you have your discrimination setting at minimum?
The Tesoro detectors are usually very good at rejecting iron, but you seem to be building up a good nail collection. Can you still detect the same small iron nails in an air test?

iTo be honest I just wanted to see it work, and nails are very handy. I have tested disc but not used it yet. I also found AUTO easiest and RETUNE worked well. I will do nail air test. What is the significanceof this ? Another field trip tomorrow

The Bandido should be able to reject the iron nails in an air test, even when the discrimination is set to minimum.
In the field things are a little different, and the detector will tend to chatter when it encounters small iron. However, it is easy to distinguish this chatter from a good target.

Thinking about it the nails are modern so prob steel. I will try to get some 'real' iron. Thanks for the help.
