Hi. I am going to clone this thing. People say it has 2 coils on an iron? core.Anybody know what it looks like or if it is really ferrite. I guess about 3" long ?
thanks
You need to get one, open it up, take pictures of the board, trace the board and make schematic. Take measurements of components so they are all identified.
I've been wondering what the circuit was. It gives one inch detection (maybe it could be improved, but I doubt it). My guess is they took the board out of the stud finders that they sale and put it in a pinpointer housing. This should be a very straightforward as it's a single sided board.
I simply do not have the time to do all this atm. But if somebody wanted to do it, I'd certainly help where I could.
If somebody takes this up, it's important to note that the coil has a polarity (being two coils sharing the same core). So it would be nice to keep track (like put tape on the wires and number them) of that so we know how it works in the schematic.
That would be nice addition to the circuit collection for the community.

Youtube video shoes two coils on a ferrite very similar to the automax schematic posted in the forum.
Hi. Dumped Cen-Tech idea - too easy. I have just started from scratch (my mk1 is fine) but i have decided to design from the start, my objective being 3" on a 5C coin, nickel ? I will post when I have some results. I may use a PIC, have to see.
