  • What is the best DIY md?

What is the best DIY md very deeper for coins and various object?

  • #2
This question gets asked about once a week, and yields about four to six answers each time. Your best bet is to spend some time searching this forum for threads that pose your question. You will likely see recommendations of the Barracuda, Surf PI, Hammerhead, IDX Pro, & TGSL.

The answer depends on your location, technical ability, target sizes, target materials, ground mineralization, resources such as test equipment like an oscilloscope, LCR meter, and signal generator.

I don't mean to discourage you but the question you ask is quite broad and has several answers. There are excellent resources here on the forum to assist you once you begin.

    Good luck,

    Dan

irritato, I was in the same boat a month ago. I found this forum and was excited to see the availability of high performing machines that I could fab myself. What I would do first is get 'Inside the Metal detector' and read it. Twice maybe. Then get some kits from Silverdog. I have 3 kits and 2 additional PC boards, (no kits were available for the IDX at the time). The quality is amazing. Not sure how he does it. I also agree with Baum that you will need test equipment. I have an old Tektronix 100MHz scope and a signal generator, bench power supply, etc. I picked up an LC meter off of ebay for 35 bucks. I have seen a lot of people on here that have problems, and it turns out that all they have is a DVM. I have held back asking too many questions on here because it turns out that others have already asked the question. Lots of reading this forum is in order. It has been many years since I was in school, so I am brushing up on LC circuits and Op Amps. I am soon to be testing out some builds and the fun starts.... I could have bought another detector for what I have shelled out so far, but this is way better.

Hi guys. I live in Italy and i haven't oscilloscope. io volevo cercare su terreni agricoli e montagna. I would like to look over farmland and mountain. I am very interested in finding coins. For this I was looking for something powerful and it went to good depth. I hope this information will prove to help direct me towards the realization of the best metal detector.

If you don't have an O scope go out and buy a metal detector, it will save a lot of time and pain.

This is true. If you are just wanting to go MDing, a homebrew solution will be far too much trouble. ebay might be your friend.

If I could cash in all the bits in my junk box I could pay all my bills and then I could buy Aziz a beer

                              Hi irritato
To build an MD itself is a big challenge! Especially the Coil development. But is enormous fun. Because you look behind things. A lot about electronics and physics learning. But it also takes time and patience. And care.

I have had some failures .... Usually does not work when first turned on. So check carefully the circuit again. Patience, patience and patience.
My first well-functioning MD is the circuit of Bernard -. PICKINI the "(PI detector) It has a high replica reliability and has a passable depth..

I do not know about the other forum members, but mostly it does not remain at one DIY detector. So I have bought at Silverdog kits. I'm putting this on.
Here in the forum you have a great help. I have also asked some stupid question. Always I got a friendly reply.

Have fun with your first DIY -detektor!

                              regards,
                              Dirk
