i use a long range mfd locater that i use for treasure hunting....i dont like having to carry around a multi-meter with a frequency counter to set my machine....i would like to mount an on board freq. counter in the machine....i have a digital counter from radio shack...does anyone know how convert this digital counter into a freq. counter....please email me at [email protected] you

The only digital counters I see that Radio Shack carries are for "event" counting. These cannot be converted to a frequency counter. There are some "frequency counter" chips available that make building a frequency counter relatively painless, but I don't recall who makes them. There have also been frequency counter projects published in electronics magazines over the years.
Might want to visit the Poptronics forums at http://www.poptronics.com/forums, someone there might have a simple frequency counter. Off hand, a 1Hz clock that resets a cascaded decade counter, plus latches the counter word, would be a simple way to do it.
