I built the raptor but there is one last thing I am confused about. SENS wiring figure says "To BATT+ on pcb" and "To +ve connection on battery". I think +ve on battery means the positive on battery. So I should connect it to 12V right? "To BATT+ on pcb" I'm not sure about this. Is it also 12V or is there something I'm missing?

      Nice work Dixix, congratulations.

What sort of controls you have now on front panel?

        I agree it is confusing..

        at first glance you have

12V Battery Pack, VBATT, +Batt, - (My guess is these are all the same node with 3 different names)

+V, +9, +5V - ( I would not like to guess which ones these are in relation to line above) - S

That's fairly easy to explain. In Fig. 9-29 "SENS Switch Wiring", you can see that this a 6-way 2-pole switch. When you turn the SENS knob, pin A will be connected to either pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Likewise, pin C will be connected to either pins 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12. Note that pins 8 to 12 are all shorted together. Therefore, when the SENS knob is positioned so that pin A is connected to pin 1, and pin C is connected to pin 7, this is the OFF position. In other words, the detector is turned off. When the SENS knob is rotated away from the OFF position, pin C is joined to one of the pins 8 to 12. In that case the +ve battery terminal is connected to BATT+ on the PCB, and the detector turns on. It's just an on-off switch.

Thanks for the replay but that's not quite what I'm asking. Which node on the pcb is BATT+ and which one is +ve? 9V or 12V? Which one is which? thats what I can't figure out.

              OK , I understand now.
As explained in the errata section on this site, the original schematics and associated PCBs were created with EasyPC. However, these were manually redrawn using Visio, and unfortunately a number of errors were introduced in the process. We plan to correct these errors when we publish Edition 2 of ITMD. If in doubt, always trust the PCB layout. For the Raptor design, there are three separate power supplies: +9V, +5V and -5V. In a few places in the schematics, the +5V supply is shown as +V. The +ve terminal of the battery is connected to pin C on the SENS control. Then pins 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are connected to BATT+ on the PCB. The C section of the SENS control is used as the on-off switch. The battery is connected to PL1. Have a look at Fig. 9-26 at the bottom left. PL1 is located above TP7. The pin above TP7 is the BATT+ connection that goes to pins 8 to 12 of the SENS switch. The pin above that goes to the -ve terminal of the battery.

Oh, now I get it. This is also on-off switch. Positive voltage goes through this knob, not directly connected to the PCB. Thanks for help. You should elaborate this in 2. edition. PL1=Battery implies that battery is directly connected to PL1, but its not.

Hello again. There is something wrong with DISC and GEB. According to instructions I should have 20 degrees offset, then DISC pulse should be positioned centrally over the positive part of RX, and GEB pulse should be over positive going zero crossing of RX. Well, I aint getting any of that. I was able to have 20 degrees offset, but DISC pulse is over the negative part of the signal and GEB pulse is over the negative going zero crossing part of the signal. I tried changing them with pots but they only change it slightly. What should I do?

Well if you look at the first page of this thread at #18 and #19 there are pictures of the Disc And GEB and they look like you describe your board to be...

Yes, they are exactly the same. It still responds to iron tho. SENS wiring was shorted, could that be it?

Please give some details of your coil. Is it a concentric or a DD? Tesoro original or homemade?

It is homemade double o coil. Both coils are 6.5 mH. TX is parallel to 33n and 4.7n, RX is parallel to 33n.

(Incidentally the little compadre-coil does not work with the Raptor)
Am build this detectror. I have a question, Ch1-Tp3 is ok.? Tp3 is output amplifier, in the picture shown 20V/div. Mayby not TP3, but TP1?
