  • Which metal dector to get?

Which metal detector is good and, most importantly, allows coils we could build or has everything went to coils that aren't just coils but electronics and the coil in the same housing?

I know the Minelabs are out for modding and making coils for but what about the Fisher F5/F70 or the Garret AT Pro?

Most detectors have "dumb" loops, although they vary in how difficult it would be to copy them.

Really? I must have missed that lesson! Though I will agree that building coils for them is a black art and suitable materials are extremely hard if not impossible to find.

Perhaps the first question that should be asked is what do you want to do with said detector?
And where do you want to use it?

      Cheers Mick

I think he's referring mostly to the X-Terras, see other thread.

          Talking about X-Terra.

Usage, Beach, land. I want to be able to change my frequency at will and I know how to wind a coil and would like that privilege for a machine I would own as building the coils is half the fun and the other half is using the machine with my homebrew coils.
