      It seem to be based on a pulse-counting FM principle.
      Fun part is that the same functionality is possible using plain old transistors. Pulse counting is a superb principle when there is ample signal to demodulate, which is the very case in demodulating a free running oscillator.

          I built this a long time ago when I first saw it posted on a Pic site.
          The code works,but the sensitivity is not good for even a pinpointer.
