  • Control Box Mounting the Easy Way

Since I am new here I thought I'd share this because I had not seen much info on it, not like its rocket science but its a simple way to mount your control box if you use a box mounted MD with either a curved or straight style shaft. It also makes it a quick attach/detach simple.

I used a 6 ft extension pole from home depot for my shaft (8 bucks and change) a plano micro case for control box. The extension pole can be separated easily, removing the lower metal portion and using 3/4 pvc for the bottom shaft with a coupler to attach it to the upper metal portion.

Instead of trying to drill holes in the upper 1 inch metal shaft and trying to make sure to keep them straight, I thought there had to be a simpler way to do this that would also let me be able to remove the control box quickly, easily and hip mount if I wanted to or for storing it and transporting to and from my desired detecting areas.

Well there is.... Using the cheap weaver style mount for a .22 (or other barrel types) with 1 inch scope rings that have the thumb wheel, total was bout 9 bucks for base and rings (ebay). They are also available at wally world (walmart).

Very simple to install and no drilling of the round shaft. The mount will attach to the bottom of your control box and the scope rings attach directly to your 1 inch MD shaft, once you set the hardware, it is good to go, simple to remove....

I hope someone will find this useful for when they are ready to mount their control box...

Also I hope this is the right spot for this, if not maybe the moderators can move it to the right place.

nice idea, though as usuall totally useless if you are in the uk(not a critisism of your idea, but uk gun laws).
if you find this here it will be specialist and expensive, i used to shoot at a gun club but gave it up, its far too expensive and complicated now to even hold a licence to shoot, nevermind actually owning a gun.
    sorry rant over

Dang sinclairuser, that really sucks.. I understand though, it is getting ridiculous here in the US and at the rate things are going it may end up being the same here sooner than later.... They even make you have a license for just scope rings and bases, that is totally ludicrous...I am completely with ya on the being angry about that..

        neat idea there,
and available in to uk as .22 rifle's and air rifle's legal (still) lol.

22mm plumbers pipe clips can also be used quite effectivly also.
and control box just clips on and off easily.
and if required can be slip along the shaft to any position without
        the need for tools.

Hi Dooley never seen those pipe clips before here in Oz, might have a look in a specialist shop maybe.
What do plumbers use the clips for ?

Plumbers here in the UK,And poss elsewhere use them to fix either 22mm copper or plasticPipe to walls or beams in houses. The clips have a hole in the middle for a screw.I just bolted two clips to the box,The it just snaps on firmly and pulls off whenever required.Result is a quite firm fixture.
