"if a target response was one of the learned, banned ones, the tone is not played"

That's essentially what a lot of the new Digital detectors do. They check phase and amplitude
at a few different frequencies and then look up in a table to see what they think the target is.

The quality of your tables determines the quality of your MD.

None use feedback from the operator to improve the tables though. Perhaps someone here could
do that to make a super learning detector!

The problems are many though. Every target is unique. Most targets are found better after some time
in the ground so burying new targets won't give the best results. Shape and orientation affect the signal.
And masking via multiple targets confuses things too.

Thank you for your clear explanation Silver dollar.
This test is not with digi-MD but with analog.
This old experiments is not which reject filter but with acsept filters.
But that's a long time since I have experimented with.

Sure, Im not saying bury new items..

In line with the original raised problem of bottle caps - you could find a range of types and states of decay and bury at various depths and orientations.

A few hours of work up front would give the user less trash for a whole year - on their local soil type

I agree multiple targets would shoot this idea flat..

I disagree. It is just statistics play.

For example, I like to niche discriminate zinc penny. But 1-2% of good gold rings may have similar target ID as that damned penny.
For many, I know it is so bad decision. But I think OK, let another guy to find that gold ring but I will find another 49 gold rings from 50
and I do not need to dig that truckload of zinc pennies. And I have saved a lot of time and energy to find good targets instead filling jars with pennies at home.

Same is with multiple targets. Can't understand what is it, dig it and take a look.
Or if target ID mislead-ed you once do not worry next time it will work properly but it is really saves a lot of time and force.

With beer caps it is so bad. I have to dig every one because it just the same signal as gold. Or I have to skip all gold items.
Beer caps are magnetic. Even hall sensor can tell it from one inch. I have no idea why so many MD get it wrong.

Also Fisher CZ perfectly identify targets so I need only sign not a value of phase to know if it shows gold with color phase shift so gold is expected
but if it shows gold with ferric phase shift beer cap is expected.

Because Fisher has two frequencies 5 and 15 kHz one of them probably is better to read direction
(not a value) of phase shift for beer caps that another one.
I just need a time for some experiments.
