  • What makes some headphones ID iron better

I use a home made IDX with little discrimination

Some iron breaks through and makes a none clean sound.

Just bought some cheap headphones and the difference between the broken iron sound and the clean target sound is much easier with these than my old set.

I want to make some new headphones out of some ear defenders to cut the outside noise down. What specification on the speaker make the sound difference that make target identification easier.

All depends upon the speaker specs. Some speakers have a bit more bassiness others teble others sound tinnie.
Then it all depends upon which type of sound you like. That's why its always suggested to take you detector to a dealer and listen to the sound
    before you purchase.

In general as a starting point try a pair of 32 ohm speakers.
You can salvage them from computer, xbox, Playstation gaming headsets etc.
