  • Any "CHANCE" Silverdog ?

Any chance Silverdog may do some "Chance PI" boards or kits?

It sure sounds like a decent detector and after reading up on it a bit and talkin to a couple guys here it sounds like there is interest,
is there any "Chance" (lol, no pun intended) in the near future they can be brought back? or maybe some kits be available?

Anyone else have interest in this particular PI..?

I would be interested in another board or two. Also would like to see the board updated with the two stage receive amp mod I posted in the CHANCE PI BUILD thread recently. Another nice change would be to allow a separateTX and RX coil. Any other suggestions?

      Could be worth a try.

why? it never worked as intended, personally i would rather see the minipulse, or any number of proven designs.

Have you built or had hands on an operating CHANCE detector with a good coil and latest software versions?

            Moving on...

Silverdog, are you interested in another run of the CHANCE PI boards. There has been quite a number of inquiries in the past year. I know you are busy with other projects so if there is no interest we'll find another way.

            Regards Andy,

if there is a final version without bugs and all improvemnets i would give this project a second chance my first build wasn´t succesful in some points.

Minipulse when it's finished development seems to be a logical choice for the next board.

But Minipulse is basically another Hammerhead. Chance has a micro controller and so has
the possibility of extending its use. The problem is the source code has never been released.

I agree with Silver Dollar and I know he is slowly working in the direction of a 2nd CHANCE version and I am glad to help where I can and as time allows. But there is interest in more CHANCE boards now. Perhaps that means the best we can do for now is just a new run of the existing latest CHANCE release knowing that they will need to be modded.

Since CHANCE is essentially software defined it can be updated with software changes just as it has been in the past, i.e. Ver 0.8.4 has evolved to Ver 1.2.1 and dramatically improved in the process. Unfortunately many of those who jumped in early to build CHANCE became discouraged with the 0.8.4 software which was really substandard, but then they did not follow up to the latest Version 1.2.1. Never mind the hardware improvements that some did not make such as: 2 stage receive amp, Low Pass Filtering, variable damping (outboard), faster coils in the 300uh range (not the original mandated 400uh), Higher current L1 input choke, Transformer on audio output to accommodate grounded speaker/headphones, hardware changes made to the last release of the board eliminating D9, changing Q2 to a bipolar, adding diodes at SP1-SP2, and acrossR25, changing R9 to 820 ohm. Also there were some boards out there without ground planes.

CHANCE offers flexible micro controller PI design, sophisticated and complex multiple pulse technology, menu driven setups with a VDI, Metal Discrimination (though not perfect 'Iron Disc' as opposed to 'None' with some other PI designs, with the potential for further improvement by software changes), useful distinctive audio output, application as a detector for coins, artifacts, large and small gold and all metals, and the ability to operate in mineralized soils.

All of this is not to disparage any other design out there. We all are a part of this forum because we share an interest in building and using detectors we can build and improve ourselves and at far less cost than buying production units. To me this detector forum is not a zero sum environment where there are insurmountable limitations that result in one detector being developed at the expense of all others. Real creativity, innovation, development, and the free flow of information is evident in the posts of this forum and I hope that will always be the case.

                    Regards,

                    Dan

if one thing has been learned about the projects over the last few years, its, that no boards should be available untill they are 100% nailed down, hardware and software(if required).
silverdog has only so many projects that can be supported at any one time, george has been very carefull to iron out the minipulse design before release.
if enough are interested maybe it can be the next project, but that will take time, there are no binaries, or source code for the chance, only demo software, lots of hardware problems too, what you dont seem to realise is that the "meeting of minds" required to fix the chance will almost never happen.
people allways handicap projects when processors and software is needed in a design, by using smt components for instance, that instantly puts off the majority of the forum, or brand new chips that half of the world cannot even get hold of.
not to mention users dissapearing off the forum as soon as a design looks workable, or wanting to charge for software, or wanting to sell only programmed chips.
there are reasons that only through hole analogue designs get full attention here.
p.s. not to mention the fact that minelab patent info and ip is used in the chance, that would all have to be reworked aswell, this forum does not need any more of that nonsense.

                          ?????

Sinclairuser, authors of different projects here, are not obliged to post absolutely proven and to all-wishes-suitable projects only.

What they post here, are in first line for learning and research purposes. Take it or leave it - and be grateful.
