  • Find small gold with an MD

In the thread "Can pinpointer detecting thin chain?"
was discussed whether it is useful to have a pinpointer that thin chain can detect
if the MD can not detect!!
I modified an MD who can detect thin chain.

Based on discussions on other forums, one of the best micro-jewellery hunting VLF machines is the Fisher GoldBug 2. This runs at 72KHz (I think), which sounds about right, the 50 -150 KHz range is where many of these tiny targets fall.

Also, I think a small coil would be the best choice, something like 5 inches, possibly even smaller if the gain of the detector could be increased.

But I have heard good things said about some of the recent First Texas machines, the Fisher GoldBugPro / Teknetics G2, which run at 19KHz, but seem to find the tiny stuff better than their frequency would suggest. So it's not all about frequency.

The main problem is when it comes to beach detecting, the wet (salt water) sand gives a strong signal very much like these tiny targets, so they become undetectable. So it's dry sand only for micro-jewellery hunting.

      Hi Skippy,
In general, higher frequencies are normal used.
There was here a DeepTech Smart for repair and adjustment, and after some changes
I was surprised because the measured distances (see photo) are with full disc and a 11x7 inch coil. operating frequency is 17kHz I believe.
